It works well for darning and visible mending, and comes with several accessories besides the loom that I have found useful. Using a speedweve-type darning loom like this one cuts down the time for darning a whole lot! The size on this one is just fine for most sock holes, but not big enough for larger holes in the sock heels.Here's what I don't like about this particular one, why it's 4 stars. Since it's the only darning loom I've tried, I don't know how it compares to others, but I'm guessing that all of them at this price-point are similar.- a couple of the hooks on one end regularly get stuck together when I push the hooks from one side to the other- the little handles in the tension bar don't stay upright for looping the warp threads- the groove in the disc where you put the rubber bands is pretty narrow, so doesn't really hold tension on thicker fabric like wool socks, jeans, etc. But that could be the same for all of these looms.There is a learning curve to these -- and lots of helpful YouTube videos! Don't expect helpful instructions with this loom.I'm going to get a larger darning loom (larger disc, more hooks) for larger holes, and will try a different brand, probably a more expensive one, now that I know I will use it!

There are a few ways to darn socks and clothing and this kit provides for them. The loom is useful for those larger holes. The pin cushion allows for longer straight pins which is nice. Improvements would be a larger egg head as most holes aren't darned at first when they are small (a stitch it time is a real thing) and I wish the handle was longer and the egg not so polished so it would have just a bit more grip. Overall this kit is proving useful as I am getting loads of use mending my clothes.

I’ve been meaning to buy a darning loom or speed weave or whatever you call it forever! I finally caved and bought this cheaply and it’s totally worth it. It used to take me forever to darn by hand, and it’s not a quick process with the loom but it still cut my time in half. Slowly but surely I’m diminishing the bag of holey socks sitting under the bed! I think I’d like to eventually invest in a pricier one with different size disks but this was a great first try to test the waters.

The pictures show the mending with yarn and the kit does not have any yarn (it has embroidery floss). I realize I am not going to have a whole ball of yarn but I did expect that the thread provided would be of a heavier nature for mending socks. I was looking for a "darning kit". As far as I could tell non of the kits on Amazon come with actual yarn. I really only wanted the egg, needles, and yarn. I chose this one because it looked like it did have some yarn. I may be sending it back.

i have one long toe , which ruins all my socks. I was able to use this tool to darn the sock after watching a you tube video It was fun. You could make cute patches too. It would only work on thicker socks, like wool .

The product was as expected, except that the darning egg was a lot smaller than I expected. But, I didn't read the dimensions before I bought it so what can I expect?

This works exactly as it should I love doing something with my hands while my husband and I watch TV so this ‘foots’ the bill! It was easy to use 1 YouTube video and I had the hang of it!! (I normally just toss holy socks) but I have fixed 4 pairs of thick wool socks and the hole patches are adorable and I was able to patch/darn my late fathers flannel near perfectly!
