Muck Razer FAQs

Does this work with rocky bottoms?

The Muck Razer is most effective on soft sediment, sand, and clay pond and lake floors. It is not recommended for hard surfaces, stone, or rocky bottoms.

Can this be used in a pond with a liner?

No, we do not recommend using the Muck Razer in a pond with a liner, as it could puncture the liner.

How often should I use the Muck Razer?

Frequent use will yield the best results. We recommend once a week during pond season. Frequent use will prevent muck build-up, debris accumulation, and excess weed growth. With consistent use, water quality will improve and pond maintenance chores will decrease.

Is the Muck Razer difficult to handle?

No, it is very easy to place in the water and roll back and forth. Please keep in mind that the large drum fills with water and takes on water weight, which can require additional muscle power. Be cautious when standing in water and thick muck, as the muck can be slippery and make it challenging to maintain your footing.

Will it remove cattails and their rhizomes?

No, the Muck Razer is designed to churn underwater pond weeds and debris, not shoreline plants such as cattails. It will not remove cattails or dig out their rhizomes from the soil. Consider a Weed Razer to slice cattails at their roots.

What is the diameter of the handle? Can an extra extension be added for use in deeper waters?

The handle diameter is around 2” inches, however, it does not have the ability to add more extensions. Adding to the handle length would make the tool difficult to maneuver.

Are there any water use restrictions?

No, unlike algecides and herbicides, which carry some chemical use restrictions based on state and local regulations, the Muck Razer is a chemical-free, effective method of controlling pond muck and weeds. Jenlis pond tools produce great results and allow you to target problem areas and manually control pond problems.

I have for year been using a Lake Bottom Blanket (fanatic at killing weeds) but I wanted something to stir it up, keep the sand agitated, and get rid of weeds as needed. It is easy to use and meditative. It does a better job on some weed than others (lily pads bye bye). I did off my dock where I had who knows what, and the 5-8 feels I did is weed free and a sandy area. A bonus is it appear to crush/ puncture some snails that the fish like. Between the two products I use, my beach/ swim area is a weed free delight. the other part I like is it helps to level the sand. Tip- I find if I go over an area with a light fast lift as I go back, about a 2-3' then roll forward again, that type of motion/ action gets the hard to get weeds best. When I am done (or my neighbors) I see all the weeds with roots floating away.

It is heavy to use but worth the physical effort. Lilly pads of different sized were loosened at their roots.

This thing is awful! Doesn’t rake anything (no weeds, nothing!). Plus, it takes forever to put together and you need a really strong drill.

Pros:Simple to assemble. Works great on minimal muck.Cons: It does not roll in muck more than 2-3 inches. It becomes a pusher. Thus useless. For this price I would expect it to work. I made 2 modifications as I'm not a "send it back" guy. It works much better now and is WAY easier to use.

This tool is great for bulldozing muck farther from shore but I'm not convinced it is actually helping to eliminate it. Because it is SO heavy when full and sitting in 6" of muck, you can only use it really close to your entry point. I have a 4 ft drop down to the water in some places, so could never lift it out of the water there. I also have created a big pile of muck at the max distance of the pile. I was hoping i could drag this around more of my 1 acre pind using a kayak or small boat, but it is WAY too heavy. If I were to do it again, I would probably get the smaller version for weight reasons.

Great product and very heavy duty for sure. Very well made. It works as advertised and is a good workout. I have rolled 4 days in a row and it is making a big difference in the quality of our beach area for swimming. Already notice the muck is moving out and the sand is now exposed. Looking forward to expanding the area further. A little pricey for what it is but as a specialty item you can expect to pay a premium.

Didn’t take a rocket scientist to put together. My husband got it together very easily. Helps if you have a drill. After working on our lakeshore and from the dock and water, we have seen significant improvement and sand. We will need to use this repeatedly over time. Even though we understand it’ll take a lot of uses, it’s noticeable results within an hour of using it. Know it’s extremely manual labor and takes a lot of effort to use it, especially when you have a lot of muck. We are excited to keep using it.Cons: it does seem to push the muck around if you have a lot of it, which we do, so push out and tackle small chunks, do not pull back through an entire area you just did.

The Muck Razer is very effective at maintaining a nice clean swim area. I started with over 8 years of build up (first image). It was more of a Muck Dozer and was very hard work to push through. After the first week I was able to see glimpses of a sandy bottom (second image). After a month the Muck Razer was much easier to use on the harder sand bottom (third image). Assembly took me less than 30 min. And there is no sign of wear, even though I leave it out on the beach when not in use.
