About this item

  • Perfect for the serious mechanic
  • Allows for easy and gentle insertion of hose fittings
  • Installing hydraulic hose fittings shouldn't be done using a hammer

Product Description

Jagwire Needle Driver

Installing hydraulic hose fittings shouldn’t be done using a hammer. The delicate brass fittings in the end of a hydraulic hose can be easily crimped or not installed flush with the end of the hose. This results in potentially poor brake performance. The Needle DriverTM is a simple-to-use tool that secures the end of a hydraulic hose and allows for easy and gentle installation of both standard and Torx hose fittings.

  • 2-sided driver bit works with both standard or Torx needles, and is held in place magnetically
  • Includes bits for both T8 and T190 Torx fittings
  • Adjustable clamp securely holds hose in place during needle installation.

Used this to install a set of Shimano brakes on a Trek that had mechanical disc brakes. This held the brake line perfectly and installed the hardware needed. Hydro brakes work so much better on an E-bike.

Holds the hose in place while the needle/barb is inserted. Compact and adjustable for holding different diameter hoses. Setting tip is reversible with 2.5 torx fitting at other end (for Avid brakes). Comes with extra tip. A nifty little shop quality tool in my opinion. Other tools come with a hose cutter but you can cut a hose with anything. I use my cable cutter with no problem. This is on sale for $23, way cheaper than the Park tool.

also works to hold the brake hose while cloaking the end fittings to achieve the perfect routing.

i got the two yellow plastic blocks for pushing the needle into the brake hose. however it didn't work for my shimano brakes. so i found this. it works. hose didn't slip though the holder while pushing. I was concerned that it would. so it gets the job done.

I think it's worth what I spend even if it won't be used that frequently. Much, much easier than trying to hammer the "needle" in. It was very easy to use and worked fast.

Well made and well performing product. The push pin is double ended, one fits shimano, one fits sram.A spare pin is included.Instructions are included, well written and clear.BUT instruction 3,e# tells people with a shimano system to position the compression olive 4mm from the end of the hose.THIS MAY APPLY TO SOME SHIMANO BRAKES BUT DOES NOT APPLY TO ALL.It didn't apply to mine and the nut would barely catch a single thread into the brake lever because the olive was holding it too far out. With the hose insert in place the olive needs a pair of pliers to move it closer to the hose end, with the possibility of damage to the sealing surfaces. Luckily I got away with it.Check the position of the olive on the old hose you are replacing and position the new olive in the same place on the new hose.

Installing these Magura MT5e brakes and used this needle driver to seat the brake line flares. Just read the directions so you don't over torque anything. This thing was super easy to use and worked like a champ. Tool is substantial and feels good quality. This tool feels almost industrial in build. If you are the type to do your own work, this thing would give many years of service without issue.

While barbs can usually be driven without this tool, this tool makes the job of driving barbs so much easier and does a better job. If all you are concerned about is being able to drive a barb for Shimano or Sram, grab a pair of vice grips, a plastic hose block and a hammer and read no farther. However, if you are in the situation where you want to insure the barb is driven straight, will hold without leaking, and is done right, this is the tool for you. This tool is really intended as a shop use tool and the price reflects that. If you're only ever going to drive one or two hose barbs you can probably get by without this tool. This tool does do a couple key things though, 1: It drives the barb straight, every time 2: The tool both clamps the hose and drives the barb meaning that you can effectively use it with two hands and not be juggling tools like you have to when driving with a hose block.Using this tool lets me more quickly and efficiently drive hose barbs while knowing that the barb isn't going to leak because it went in crooked. While this tool isn't strictly necessary, it has become one of my favorite tools because it transforms the sometimes frustrating job of shortening hose lines and turns it into a very easy task. The tool is well constructed and even though it's plastic, I expect it to last for many, many years. The way I see it, this tool is well worth it if it saves me from having to do a bleed even once or twice. Most shops charge $25 for a bleed, so if this tool helps avoid a bleed when shortening the lines even once, or avoids leakage from a crooked barb, it has paid for itself.
