digital to analog digital broadcast transmission converter box analog tv

How It Works

The iView 3300STB works by acquiring digital channels coming from ATSC, Over-the-Air, or ClearQAM, unencrypted digital cable transmission. The HD content that comes out allows users to receive unscrambled digital cable signals with the use of a monthly cable provider.

From Analog to Digital

The iView Digital Converter box automatically converts the signal to be compatible with your analog unit. Analog TV owners won't need to get themselves a new TV if they don't want to.

The iView 3300STB has built-in QAM capabilities that allow you to watch unscrambled, unencrypted cable channels and supports Over-the-Air (OTA), which allows the user to receive some unencrypted digital cable channels, also known as "in-the-clear" channels.

iView Converter Box Clock Functionality

Built-in Clock Function

The iView 3300STB includes a built-in clock function that displays during standby with automatic calibration.

ATSC and QAM Capabilities

OTA (Over-the-Air)

The iView Digital Box works great in ATSC, otherwise known as over-the-air or local channels. Once plugged in, the 3300STB gives you a wider range of channels you can view, with noticeably higher picture clarity. Just connect to your antenna line, scan for channels, and you're ready to go.

QAM Capability

The iView 3300STB comes with QAM, or Quadrature Amplitude Modulation, capability, a format that most cable companies use to transmit and encode their signals.

Our converter boxes are able to pick up ClearQAM channels with a monthly cable provider that offers unscrambled, unencrypted cable.

Watch local OTA channels, unscrambled digital programming and possibly some other channels (depending on your location). HD and SD channels become unlocked the moment you plug and successfully setup the iView 3300STB in.

media function playback for movies pictures and music

Universal Media Player

The iView 3300STB can act as a universal media player to play videos and music.

To use the media player functions, it is required to connect a USB Flash Drive or External Hard Drive to the box. The drive needs to be no bigger than 4TB in size and formatted to Fat32 or NTFS.

If the storage device has any media already saved on it, those media files can be played on the Iview Box. Selecting “Pictures” will display a slide show of any pictures in JPG, BMP, or PNG format. Selecting “Music” will turn the device into a music player. This music player can play any music files in WMA, MP3, or AAC format. The final option, “Video” will allow playback of any videos in AVI, MKV, MPG, and MKV formats. During video playback, you can press the green SCHD button, on the remote, to cycle between preview and full-screen modes.

dvr digital video recording

DVR Capabilities

Record digital content while you're away with the iView 3300STB.

Connect the box to a USB Flash Drive or External Hard Drive to start recording with DVR. Plug your external drive and record movies and shows to playback later straight to your device.

The DVR function can be done two ways: A recording can start and stop using the red REC and STOP buttons on the remote, respectively, allowing for impromptu recordings at any time. The device can also schedule recordings. From there, the channel, start time, and end time can be set and the box will automatically record and end at the scheduled times. This can also be set to record daily (every day, including weekends), weekly (once a week), or just once. However, the box’s recording functions are limited to one at a time and can only have no more than 30 scheduled recording jobs saved onto the box’s memory.

Pass Through Functionality

Our iView 3300STB has passthrough capabilities via firmware to access analog channels in countries and areas where analog signals are still present. You can rely on the iView 3300STB to acquire the transmission and play it directly to your television set. Analog channels will still be accessible due to our converter boxes pass-through capability. Broadcasting is still alive and well, even in your old TV.

Does what is basically is supposed to - convers digital OTA ATSC signals to HDMI or analog video/audio. Since my local broadcasts do not support program lists, I assume this unit, like other manufacturers', cannot be set to local time zones or the 24 hour time manually. Why not? I notice intermittent sound break up. Will keep monitoring this

The ad title for the iView 3300STB converter box says it has new firmware, and they are right; for the converter box I received, the 2023 firmware version that shows in the settings is the same as the latest version available on the iView website. The 3300STB and my homemade antenna work well with my 32" computer monitor for viewing over-the-air TV channels and provide a good-looking picture with 1080p resolution, but I won't be trying the recording function. I thought I could, but I can't get used to the unusual layout of the remote (four numbers across instead of the usual three), and the power cord being only three feet long is not working out. I'll be returning this unit and I won't be the first, as it was apparent it had been returned at least once before. It had been repackaged and looked a little ruffled, but I didn't mind that, as we are allowed free returns, after all. Poor thing. I hope the third time will be the charm for it to find a home where someone will be able to overlook its oddities.

There are several companies that make a similar unit with same basic hardware. (iView, Ematic, etc). Previous to this purchase, I bought a couple Ematic models. Ematic has ZERO customer support, no firmware updates. Nothing. Buggy, to say the least! This iView unit had a couple minor software bugs. I called iView customer support, a real person answered. She sent me a firmware update that resolved all my issues. These machines are a great, inexpensive way to receive OTA broadcasts, as well as making HD recordings onto usb drives. If you are going to get one of these units, iView is the way to go! I'm very happy with this converter and just bought another one.Edit:After using this device for a while, my only complaint is that the power cord is just 3ft in length. That's a bit on the short side, and as a result, limits placement of the device without the use of an extension cord. This doesn't change my overall ratings of the device, but I sure wish the power cord was a foot or two longer.

Most of the wonderful reviews on this item are about it being used as a converter box only not DVR or initial impressions. This review is my experience using it as a DVR.I've tried a number of these combo converter box DVR units (two different iViews, two different ViewTVs, ZJbox, Exuby, Ubisheng and Mediasonic) and this isn't the worst (IMHO).The biggest problems with this product is:- Buggy software (they all seem to use different versions of the same junky software)- Reliability (low quality or non-durable parts)- Arbitrarily freezes and reboots (stops any recording that may be happening)- Deletes channels (and anything scheduled under that specific channel) for no reason- Manual channel scan (to add a specific channel) doesn't work (but it doesn't work for any of the other brands either) so you end up doing a complete scan (deleting any scheduled programs)On the plus side, sudden time zone shifting doesn't seem to be as much of an issue vs ViewTV.The software on this unit is worse than all the others I've used, I don't know if it's a defective old version or defective new version. They all seem to have some sort of glitch when scheduling a program at/ near midnight but this one can be glitchy any part of the day; I'll schedule a program to record in the morning and it'll tell me it conflicts with a program in the afternoon (yes, I verified for AM and PM conflict).Like most of the others, this freezes and restarts for no apparent reason but it has this became a problem sooner than the others. The remote is pretty crummy (most are similar in design so they're not necessarily worse) it's less generic but still mostly rows and columns, a few are different near the top (left, right, up, down and select). It isn't intuitive so you'll need to look at the remote to activate a function (the ViewTV remote is the most ergonomic one I've used).Getting to viewing recorded items can be a chore. When going to the DVR section, it's just a long list of items that have been recorded (I label the recorded programs by show name and number); if you have a lot of recordings, you'll have to use the up/ down arrows to scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, scroll, to the program you want to watch (no page up/ down like ViewTV units). This remote is slightly less bad than the others in that you don't have to be as much of a sharpshooter to communicate with the box. The beam is a little wider or they used a little better sensor so you can be a little off and it'll still work. The unit is slow to react to button pushes (push button - wait - box reacts) so if you're scrolling (pushing and holding the button) you'll probably over-shoot what you're trying to access and have to back-track. The box doesn't recognize double-presses (it sees it as a single press). The remote is too slim (tends to move around in your hand). even though it looks like they put a little more effort into the design the buttons still feel generic (you need to look at it to make sure the correct button is being pressed). In general the remote is prettier than the others but still annoying to use (again ViewTV is a little better). The LED display is easier to read than the others, the characters are larger than the others I've seen.Summary:Software is worse than the others I've tried, lousy remote (but it works), the unit works so far; if reliability is similar to others it should be done within a year.As with the others, picture quality is good.FYI - I've tried iView's newest model (3500 STBA III) which was defective out of the box (one of the ones with the wacked-out channel number issue). The remote looked nice but it was hard to use because it was so slim (hard to hold) and the face was so flat (hard to feel which button I was touching/ activating). In general, this are some of the problems I've run into with these standalone DVR converter boxes:A number were defective out of the box: weird channel designation (a couple called channel 3 some wacked-out number like, "16207"), wouldn't recognize an external hard drive (tried three different brands that worked with other converters), wouldn't complete channel scans, etc...Some went downhill (deleting scheduled programs, recording a few minutes of a scheduled program, wouldn't recognize the external drive, suddenly freeze then reboot for no reason, etc... ) shortly after the end of the return period.

I already have a TV with a digital converter so I only needed this box as a media player so I can record shows.. It has surpassed my expectations. It actually will find show times (EPG button on remote) and when you press OK it will record shows daily or just once. Or you can program whatever times you want.. Also you can use the HD on a computer to watch the things you've recorded as well.. You so need an external HD & it has to be formatted to FAT32. I had old SDD laying around so I bought a USB to SATA converter, found a free plug in online to format to FAT32, plugged it in and it has been working great!!!! I bought 2 of these for seperate rooms. And plan on buying a 3rdJust know its a clunky remote with not a great distance response meaning you have to be pointing right at the receiver to change channels etc... It's not a state-of-the-art set top box... It is a $25 converter with cool featuresIf you're not picky and need a converter that can program recordings for you, & you have the ability to hook up an external USB drive, this box is great!!!

This gets the job done. You aren't going to confuse it with a $700 DVR but it works well enough. The menu's are clunky but there is a program guide to look at and record from. Picture is very clear with minimal skipping. I use it with a cheap usb stick and the thing works. Complete cost with the usb is under $35. I tried a different brand it and skipped horribly so I am more than happy with this one.
