For the storage solution based on data transfer of multiple hard drives, The newly added FIS-based switching design can overcome the bottlenecks created by operating multiple SATA storage devices simultaneously. The data transmission rate of the JMB585 can achieve to 1700MB/s, which is the maximum transfer speed of PCIe Gen3 x2.

For whatever reason, the seller is packaging these in reused PCIE card boxes. So when I initially received it, I thought I had been shipped the wrong item and filed a return/replacement. When the second one came, also in the same style of packaging, displaying the wrong kind of card, I decided to open it to confirm. I've attached a picture, since at this time I do not see any pictures of the package on this listing. Hopefully this review will save someone else some frustration.I bought this device to use in a NAS. It works great paired with mini SAS cables.

I had purchased this to use in a Mini PC and it worked great, however this card is *extremely* thin. After removing the drives to place them into a little drive caddy I bought, I had gone to plug them and they began spitting out errors in TrueNAS. Looks like I might've cracked the SATA controller or some sort of trace :(

Once set up, it works great. Just be very careful handling it. The sata ports are incredibly stiff and the pcb incredibly flexible. In fact, probably the stiffest sata ports and most flexible pcb I think I've ever come across. Not really a good combination. But other than that works like a dream.

Mini-ITX mobos are notorious for having limited storage expandability due to their size, but they're a popular choice for NAS systems because of how compact they are. My board has a maximum of 4 SATA ports and I only needed a few more so this M.2 adapter was perfect for my needs as I wasn't using the M.2 slot already. So far this expansion card has worked flawlessly and transparently; no drivers needed and my drives showed up as they should. There were other reviews worrying about how hot the chipset gets and after running a 1 hour write test to both connected drives at the same time I only measured a peak temperature of about 125F. However for peace of mind I stuck a small Raspberry Pi heatsink to help with longevity. Also, yeah, those activity LEDs are **BRIGHT** and they light up the inside of the case so I recommend doing something like putting a piece of electrical tape over them if they're an issue for you.I'll update this review if anything arises, but so far everything is good (also as a note I bought this used).

Works perfectly, super simple to install, just drop it into an m2 slot and hook up some hard drives. They're immediately detected when I boot the machine, no drivers or hassle needed. It even came with 5x SATA cables which I wasn't expecting or needing, but nice that they're provided just in case.

Fit M.2 E port perfectly. Immediately recognized by Linux kernel and hosting a 5 bay eSata hdd enclosure.

Sometimes you just need space for more traditional hard drives. This adapter will provide those additional ports in a very small package. However as with all m.2 based tech, you must be careful about how far you tighten it down- this is doubly true since this is significantly smaller than a full size ssd.

Purchased to add SATA to a Rock 5B. They work great straight out the box when running Ubuntu. No experience of other OS's but on Ubuntu they just work.

It was working ok for few months on my windows home NAS server where I used only one of the SATA port. Then suddenly I was getting constant Blue screen of death or PC just freeze. It took some time to figure out the faulty hardware and when I removed the adapter the PC was running ok again. I found out that main chip was getting very hot to touch after 1-2 minutes.I don't recommend the product.

Bought on Feb 21, died on April 29.While it lasted, it was great, getting full speed off all 5 SATA drives plugged into it. But while my ZFS pool was scrubbing (bi-weekly scheduled, automatic task), the 5 drives connected to this device disconnected. I installed another OS and even it couldn't see the 5 drives connected to this device. I'm guessing it overheated to the point of no return under the sustained load of scrubbing. The case has 3x 120mm fans all set to max speed, so I would have hoped overheating would be a non-issue.Also, after rebooting once this adapter died, the active 10g port I was using no longer works reliably, fortunately the second 10g port still works.Cool concept, great speeds while it lasted, but not worth it for those of us who use their storage heavily.

This was installed on an ASUS B450 in the main (top) M.2 slot with Ryzen 5 3400G and worked with out any problems. However when I moved the NVME memory to the back slot it was not recognised

I was a little concerned by one of the negative reviews I'd read about this device on the Amazon site but those concerns were quickly allayed. I also had a concern that my motherboard's M.2 slot might not be compatible as it is an NVMe slot and not a SATA slot. That too immediately went away. It was plug-and-play all the way, baby!I was also concerned because I had recently purchased a 6-port PCIe controller from Amazon and it worked fine until I tried to configure software RAID (through the operating system) on it. That controller worked fine when writing to one disk at a time but when I wrote to the RAID array, the system bogged down and the array went away until I rebooted the system. That was a terrible experience. This controller, however, is handling the software RAID like a champ! It does have problems when I write a file larger than about 100GB. I'm using this 5-port controller in my Server 2012 iSCSI target (SAN) computer. When I tried to move my .VHD files from one disk to another, the .VHD files that were 100GB and less copied fine but the ones that were 400GB and greater failed after about 5-minutes. I got around this problem by recreating the virtual disks and then copying the contents from one disk to another. It handles lots of smaller files very well. Not sure why the huge files fail but fortunately, my file copying needs never exceed 60GB at the most and most of the file activity is normal (little) stuff (Word Docs, text files, movie and music files, etc.).I definitely recommend this controller to anyone who has a free NVMe M.2 slot on their m-board, who needs more drive capacity.
