It is surprising to learn just how loud things can be.This decibel meter makes it easy to determine just how loud something is.The main purpose - to determine if something is TOO loud - if it needs to be quieted, or if ear protection is in in order. The device is easy to use, and to understand.

I have nothing to compare accuracy with but it seems pretty good compared to some of the items I have tested and similar reviews on YouTube for example. Very easy to use. Seems like for the price it was a really good deal.

The Digital Decibel Meter from intendvision comes with the meter, 3 AAA batteries, instructions and a felt bag.The instructions are mostly clear. There were a couple callouts. The wind screen is labeled as "Wind the ball". One of the bullet points on the "Considerations" page has a sticker covering it that used to tell you to calibrate the device. One instruction was "Do not store or operate the instrument in areas of high." High what? Heat? Humidity? Electrostatic charge? No idea. The felt bag was unmarked with a drawstring. I could expect it to get lost in a gear bag. Having a branded bag would greatly help there.Installing the 3x AAA batteries requires a small philips screwdriver. A J1 works well. The meter defaulted to Fast mode and Celsius. I switched it to Slow mode to make it easier to take the photos, and Farenheit to better compare with the server cabinet reading.Let's look at some actual readings.I took an ambient reading about 10 feet from the space heater, with the TV muted. That came out as 39.1 db.I took another measurement right next to the space heater, but not in the path of the airflow. That came up as 52.8 db.About 2-3 feet away from that point, I took a measurement of the TV while on a music channel. I did not adjust the volume, just unmuted it. This came up as 55.7db. Given how close I was to the TV speakers, I was honestly expecting it to be higher. Much of that sound was likely coming from the space heater given the other two readings.I also took a measurement on the outside of the server cabinet. While the glass door does partially mute it, there are a ton of airflow holes along both left and right sides of the glass. That came up as 52.8 db. It is also worth noting that the temperature at the top of the rack aligned with the meter reading. One other test I ran was to turn it on and slowly sweep in a circle to determine if I could detect the direction of the noise. Unfortunately, the device resets to Fast mode when powered on and Fast mode is too sporadic for that kind of task. Switching it back to slow mode, I was able to detect the general direction - but it took a few sweeps to be sure. Maybe some side shields would help with this test.Overall the meter was easy to use. Turn it on and point it at the sound. I also really appreciate that there is a protective cover over the microphone. Changes that I would love to see would be a branded bag, removable/replaceable microphone and some corrections to the instructions.

If you are worried about the sound levels of things around your house or at work, then this thing will absolutely help you get an accurate reading of the sounds' intensity. I have compared it with other decibel meters I have and it's within .2db for accuracy, which is pretty good for me. It's also within .3 degrees fahenheit, and I don't have a way to compare the relative humidity. The thing comes in a comfortable sized case that fits nicely in your hand. I like the min/max feature, in fact, that's a requirement for me. It has a 10-min idle shutoff that I wish you could adjust, because sometimes that's just too short a time frame for me. I also noticed a weird design choice to make the sides and bottom of the device have beveled edges, so that they form a point where the plastic casing meets in the middle. It's ever so slightly, but it makes it difficult to stand up vertically, and it makes it impossible to make it stand up on its side. This, and the hard-coded 10-min shutoff is why I took a star off. Also, be sure to notice that this reads from 30-130db, meaning it won't give a reading at all below 30. Not an issue for me, since I'm testing loud things around the house, but just something I noticed when using it. Overall though, it's a good device, and I trust its readings.
