I purchased this adapter years ago when I was driving my dad's truck for high school and this was the adapter I had used for quite a while with it. It was an alright adapter, sound quality was fine or at least as good as it could be considering two of the speakers in the truck were barely working anyhow. The issue I had with it was that it simply wouldn't stay in and read in normal Cassette mode. I had to set the stereo to cassette clean mode by holding the CD TAPE / TAPE AUX (can't remember which this truck had) button until the unit went into clean mode and then it would keep the cassette in and still read. Did it stay like that? No, it would randomly kick it back out, sometimes taking a few tries for it to stay in. Based on other reviews, I'd have to imagine that other vehicles were a little less finicky towards it. It worked well enough for me as a high school student who just wanted to listen to stuff on late night drives in the middle of nowhere. I eventually upgraded to a FM Transmitter which was a better solution apart from upgrading the radio itself. The only issue with FM Transmitters is finding an almost-zero static radio frequency to use and driving long distances messes that up once you do find it.

These didn’t work. Don’t buy them. I bought two and had no success with either one

The product stopped working after only a few weeks. However, the vendor very amicable when it came to giving me a refund.

I had no issues with this playing (i.e. ejecting) from my 2003 Tacoma. It made a little bit of mechanical noise, but nothing you could even hear if you were actually driving. The sound quality was actually FAR better than I expected, I would say it was "really good" for the stock old stereo system I've got. I really wanted to like this adapter but...... there was a constant hum when it was in the deck whether you were playing music or not. You really couldn't notice it with any loud music playing. But if you were listening to quiet music or an audiobook it was very noticeable to the point of being rather annoying. I don't know if I had a defective unit (I have not read any other reviews complaining of a hum). I would have liked to try a replacement unit to see if it was just a problem with the one I had, but Insten would not let me do that.Lots of negative reviews on this product have Insten replying to the review saying "please contact us..." so I just sent them an e-mail as they requested so many negative reviewers do. I received a very unhelpful reply that just said "You ordered through Amazon, so do the return through Amazon." So I initiated the return through Amazon and there was no option to get a replacement unit. They would only issue a refund. In the past I've had plenty of companies send me a replacement immediately and give me a 30-day window to return the old one. That way you can make sure the replacement works properly and do a side-by-side comparison. No option to do that here. And I'm certainly not going to order a second one because the sheer number of bad reviews and the only experience I have had was with a bad unit.I don't want to spend $20 on the Monster adapter, but maybe that's the only way to increase my chances of getting one that works well.UPDATE - After much searching through fake knock offs on [you can guess what online auction site] I found a vintage (the only way to be sure it wasn't a knock off) Sony CPA3 for $12 including shipping. AWESOME. And knowing it's vintage Sony (in great condition) it should last as long as the vehicle does. If the new stuff is all expensive and crap, and your only other option seems to be spending $3-$6 every month on new cheap, cheap adapters... used might not be such a bad idea...

The reason for this purchase was that my old cassette adapter had failed. When plugged into my iPhone, it would make a crackling noise whenever is was moved around. Keep in mind this was 15$! I listen to music in my car almost every day, so this was upsetting to me. I looked on amazon and came across INSTEN's adapter. When I ordered it I did not expect much given it was only 6$! I was terribly wrong. I have been using this for over two months now and have had zero issues! The sound quality is great but I recommend having the volume on your device about 3/4 of the way on, and turning the volume up more through your car stereo. This is because when you turn it up from your phone, the sound becomes distorted. When using my last adapter, the 3.5mm jack would slide around because it didn't have a snug fit. This plug fits perfect and is snug, it never falls out or moves around! Overall, I couldn't be happier with this purchase and am going to purchase another for a gift! There is no better bang for your buck when it comes to cassette adapters.

I really needed one of these cassette audio things for a road trip and after reading all the inconsistent reviews I was really hesitant on which ones to get. I didn't have time to play guessing games on which adapter to order over the other so I ordered two different ones at the same time: this one and the PLAY X STORE Universal Car Audio Adapter. The PLAY X STORE one was useless and super fuzzy. But this one (INSTEN) is awesome! The sound is exactly what I wanted! Some of the reviews say you have to take off some clear tape thing on it but mine works without taking it off. I tried to take it off thinking the sound might be a little better but it didn't make any difference. Sometimes you do need to fiddle with the plug a little bit to get the sound to be more crisp but other than that, this one turned out to be the perfect one for my car (2000 Honda Accord). TIP: The sound is better if you turn the volume on your phone all the way up and THEN adjust the volume on your car to be softer/louder to your preference. But yeah, point is. This one gets the job done! Since then, I've bought another one for my boyfriend for his Toyota Sequoia. Works great in that car too! Good luck!!
