I selected this product because I wanted to see how this compares to air dry clays. This paper maché product is a fine powder that is mixed 3 parts power to 1 part water and is bright white when it dries. It's important to get the amounts right to have the correct consistency. It dries consistently as well, but it's best to smooth any lumps on the surface before it dries, or it's necessary to sand it smooth, so take the time to smooth if while it is still damp. It's easy to smooth it with your fingers and a little water.Once dry your object is really light weight, but fairly strong, given it's just paper. I feel it's a little pricey for what it is, but it's a good product just the same. I wouldn't recommend kids use this without an adult present only because the mixing can be tricky and it's probably not good to breathe in dust if a container is spilled before water is added, but once the mixture is completed, kids can have a lot of fun with this product. The dried surface takes paint well, and I even had good luck adding color to the mixture so that I made a colored clay. Lots of experimentation possible with this product by Modoh!

There's definitely a learning curve to this — picture it like clay, but wetter and not really one congealed mass. It is a bit messy, but this is a medium I'm learning to like! I've used this in multiple smaller projects (I like to sculpt stuff for quirky earrings), and it feels like I haven't even made a dent in my supply. This is WAY more economical than air dry clay, so even with the mess it creates, I really don't mind it.

I am an elementary art teacher and am looking for an affordable way to replace Elmer's Art Paste, which was how we completed paper mache projects before it was discontinued. While this would be too expensive for my classroom, it is a good product for personal use.

I love doing plaster of Paris bandage casting/molding for life masks. I decided to try this product with a combination of rag and paper to do my first phase and compare it to the local art supply stores plaster of Paris bandage. The pros were that this material was easy to work with – easy to mix, manage, etc. – and the cons were the packaging. When you get your powder be sure to have a sealable container on hand and pour it in there so you can work with it without creating a mess. For straight casting – powder + water, pour and wait – it works fine. In combination with other structural elements it works similar to the plaster of Paris I’ve used in the past. Price is comparable to other products in this category. If your project is going to require more than the 1 pound go for the 3 pound bag from this same company, the price is less per pound. Good for artists, crafters, and anyone who wants to do some old school art and molding. As I said I was comparing this to pretreated plaster of Paris bandage - where I can measure out small amounts and use as needed with just a bucket of water – and this – with rag strips and paper strips – the Modoh came out less expensive for covering the same area and making roughly the same things.

So, packaging is a problem. No resealable bag or instructions on mixing the powder. Had to find a container to place it in, and for this price? I also had to guess at water:powder ratio. I guessed wrong, made it too watery. This is very expensive for the amount you receive, so for it to not be foolproof is disappointing. If I get the ratio correct, maybe I'll use it, but more than likely it'll sit at the back of a cabinet. Maybe it's amazing if that ratio is perfect, but I won't spend the time guessing. Bummed.

This product creates and incredibly smooth surface on my paper mache sculptures. Much smoother than any of the other products on the market and much more expensive, probably because the package includes fine wire mesh that i guess they think will be used for the armature. I’d like to purchase just the mix by itself. Will recommend the product to others but hope they stop including the mesh and bring the price down accordingly.
