Material is not breathable. Save your money and just wear regular socks and use DEET. These are completely ineffective. I bought seven pairs for our family of three. Everybody got bitten through their insect shield socks.

The good: so far these seem to be effective. I ordered them for my kids who spend a lot of time outdoors in very tick-heavy areas, and we've not found any ticks on their legs since they started wearing them. That's great. They fit as expected, and my kids say they're comfortable (and they are very particular about socks).The bad: they've only been worn four times, for four hours or less each time, and for not very intense activity (these are little kids playing in the woods, not hiking a mountain). I've washed cold and air dried each time, and they are already showing a lot of pilling and wear. They advertise being effective for "70 washes" but if they look this rough after four washes/16 hours of wear, I can't imagine they'll last that long. I was so pleased with the convenience of pre-treated socks, but if they continue to wear at this rate it won't be worth it.
