It appears the stained wood tends to flake or splinter easily. Unfortunately, when I received this, all those splinters and staining was rubbed into the white pad and left permanent marks. The background is no longer blank white, which reduces the aesthetics of pinnings on a simple white background. The container of pins is shipped inside the frame and is free to roll around inside and appears to also unfortunately scratch up the clear plastic window.

I was able to pull something together, but I ended up ruining my lunar moth in the process. The needles are very bendy and too long. You have to like them very far into the foam to be able to close the box. The black frame looks nice but it just isn’t for someone who doesn’t have very much experience. I had to use pliers to cut off the end of them so the needles would fit. Lots of extra steps

I bought this to display a dragonfly that perished right in my driveway (they are my talisman and I took it as a good omen). Needed something to put the little guy in and this was it. The box is not a really nice wood. It’s unfinished, scratchy, the top isn’t glass it’s a cheap acrylic that came scratched a bit. Overall not amazing quality but since I’m no entomologist, it’s working for my needs.

I read the entire page before buying and saw in the item description "300 pins of various sizes". That was one of the reasons I bought this product was for size 2 pins, only to receive 100 size 0 pins. I read now in the title it says "100 pieces" but the item description says 300 of various sizes. "3 different sizes", "ample quantity".. both reasons for buying but these were not true. The product description and "about this item" section are both a lie. The top of the container has a flimsy plastic on stop that arrived with scratches on it.

This is a great display box for beginning collectors. I bought it for my husband and the grandchildren to use to display the many dead (yes, dead) "bugs" they collect on their walks. We have a home in the Sierra, and there is a constant supply of dead and dying insects to pick up, mount on pins, and display. The glass light shades on the ceiling fixtures of our home are also a great source of pinning material. The kids are learning the names of the major groups of insects and reading about their roles in the natural world and in agriculture. Highly recommend. Quick delivery and great packing.

Cat jumped on it and cracked the top. Son states it needs silicon to seal from destructive bugs from getting in

I orders this after finding a perfectly padded butterfly on a hike. I needed something to mount it in and this was the perfect first time purchase! I was a little shocked at the small sizes of the needles and how flimsy they could be when putting the pins in the specimen but that could be more on user error (not reading details/descriptions). My butterfly looks great in the box and I have it mounted in my office. I received lots of compliments on it!

My kids new favorite hobby (and maybe mine too). The box was as expected, not super sturdy (plexiglass even came cracked but being replaced easily), but over very happy with the value. The box came with pins and a foam board inside. A very fun way to learn about bugs with my kids. They are so unbelievably excited, hunting for more dead bugs to put inside. A great gift idea. Definitely recommend.

Qualité médiocre. Petit bois très cheap. En plus, uniquement mis dans une enveloppe pour la livraison, même pas de boîte. Résultats, il est arrivée brisé. Et en fessant le retour, il inscrive "emballer l'article soigneusement dans une boîte" ..... Risible. Il devrait exiger la même chose des commerçants!

I bought this primarily to use for a decorative insect display, not a scientific one. The foam appears to be good quality, and so do the pins. The wood is light weight (probably balsa,) and is painted black, so you'll have to prevet black flecks from getting in the display. The box is not built and cut to have a fitted lid like a typical entomology display box, it's cut straight through. The hinges and are a little flimsy, but I don't plan to open it again. I might even seal it shut since the lid isn't fitted (it's decorative, but I still don't want my specimens and display to soil or decay.) What I'm actually upset about, is that the description says the lid has a clear glass top. It's not glass, it's thick plastic, it's scratched, and it's fixed to the lid like a picture frame. You get what you pay for, though, and I'll make it work. I'm just going to cut and fix my own glass piece to it. I think this would be better suited as a jewelry box rather than an entomolgy display. I'm sure it'd be good for kids just getting into insects, or trying it out, but not for someone taking it seriously. I'll dish out the extra money for a professionally built case next time.
