I have used synthetic shibori style dye with beautiful results many times and was so excited to try natural dye. But unfortunately it didn't mix easily despite my best efforts and ended up dying unevenly and also leaving iron stains on the fabric. Maybe my fault but definitely not as easy to use as the synthetic I had done previously.

With this being only my second time making an indigo dye vat, I would definitely consider myself and amateur. The first dye kit I purchased was from HelloBello. It came with powdered indigo and an additional powder setting agent. Had great tie dying results, would definitely buy again, but they are sold out.I read great reviews about Graham’s dye kit, but was a little shocked to discover such a fowl smell when mixing the vat.I would call it “concentrated diaper genie in a bottle.” Smelled like straight up, month old baby diaper. Aside from that the kit had great instructions, tips, & tools.I hosted a tie dye party for 25 people and used 2 vats. The first half of the projects turned out, but the second half seemed to be kind of dingy and green. As mentioned before I am an amateur, so it could’ve been user error, but I think I would try a different kit next time.

I purchase this as a gift for a friend. The package I received had clearly been opened. Therefore, I could not give this dye kit as a gift. Instead, I tried to dye a couple linen pillow cases but this dye kit is of poor quality. The pillow cases dyed very faint. Nothing like true shibhori. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you are interested in quality shibhori dye.

This was a gift originally but I ordered another kit because I loved this! Read the directions, do it outside with a friend, and you will be amazed at the results.

Love the packaging. Lots of great and approachable info. Very user friendly. And so much fun to do the process at home.

Instructions were clear and easy to follow. The indigo dye worked well.I would absolutely recommend this kit for those new to indigo vat dying.

Using these basic indigo dye tools, I created a bandana that my wife, an artist, thinks is beautiful. I thought this first go around would be a practice but she won’t give it back! As a novice, I had the guidance (clear and simple instructions) and tools (pigments, gloves, etc.) I needed to dive in for the first time. But now I have all kinds of ideas for what’s next. I’ll be experimenting with more cotton gauze bandanas but I’d like to get a little crazy--I saw online that people are dying white tennis shoes and blankets. Indigo dying a mutli-step process but I had fun and didn’t screw it up. Looking forward to creating more.
