About this item

  • Medium weight 190gsm resin coated paper
  • Neutral base tint
  • Pearl surface

Highly versatile and well-suited for all traditional black and white printing needs, this box of 50 sheets of 8 x 10" Ilford MULTIGRADE RC Deluxe features a pearl 44M surface finish that has a more textured appearance than glossy paper to help reduce overwhelming surface reflections, yet still retains some reflectivity to achieve deeper black values for a longer apparent tonal scale. This Generation V paper features an updated emulsion with a more linear contrast profile that responds consistently and accurately to the full 00-5 range of Multigrade filters for fine tuning the look of prints. The paper also features a truly neutral base tint and responds especially well to different toning solutions for adjusting the final print color. The enhanced emulsion also affords deeper blacks along with enhanced mid-tone separation for greater flexibility when printing negatives of varying densities. Additionally, it is suitable for printing both conventional black and white negatives as well as chromogenic black and white negative films and the paper can be processed using standard black and white chemistry in either trays or using machine processors.

I needed to buy this pack of 50 sheets for my architectural photography class because we are learning how to develop film. When I went into the darkroom to develop some contact sheets for my film, I opened my pack for the first time which I had never exposed. But the first 15 pages were pitch black when I developed them for 2-3 seconds. Very disappointing as my grade depends on how well we develop the contact sheets. I was only able to develop around 10 sheets as they all were mostly exposed. My professor and lab attendants also tried to help me but they all told me my paper was most likely exposed before I even got it

Only open it under a safelight in a darkroom please. This is light sensitive paper. After that it’s great. You can do split toning or just run it with an Ilford 3 contrast filer and pop out some prints for friend. Super easy to handle, uses less chemicals than fiber, and dries quickly. I’d say snag either the glossy or pearl for your prints and give it a try.

I’m fairly new to darkroom printing and I’ve been printing pretty much exclusively on this paper so I don’t really have anything else to compare this paper to. That being said, I like what I see so far. It develops in under a minute when you use Ilford’s multi grade developer, handles long washing well, and it dries nice and flat to make it easier to frame. The blacks are deep and the white base is neutral. The pearl finish has a pleasant sheen that works well for most prints. For higher quality art gallery prints, I’ve been using Ilford’s MGRC glossy paper to make the blacks pop a bit more and give the photo a sleek look. But this paper is just fine for normal prints. Finally, the price is right. A 50-pack of this paper that will last a good long time is cheaper than some Kodak film 5-packs right now so that really puts it into perspective. This paper is a good value, especially if you’re just starting out in the darkroom and making mistakes and learning techniques. I’m self taught so I’m probably making more mistakes than people who are taking a class. But mistakes are just opportunities to learn so it’s not truly wasted.I commend Ilford’s dedication to the art of film photography and I will support them in any way I can.

This paper seems as if it's been sitting in the heat before it was sent to me. None of the highlights in my images ever show up. I am not satisfied with this batch of paper. Will not buy again.

Love the pearl surface and the extra thick paper stock and the 7 grades of contrast by using the poly contrast filters

Had to buy this for photography class. Big selling point was the fast shipping. Price is OK, but fast, free shipping helped. Love the Ilford brand photo paper. Does the job. My photos came out terrific with no issues in the dark room with this paper!
