These work well for me as tuning fork activators as the rubber is firm with a bit of give. So economical compared to commercial tuning fork strikers that are similar in shape and composition and the usual inexpensive ball stick activators that come with the tuning forks don't give as good results in my opinion. The only downside is there is some of the usual chemical, rubbery smell which should dissipate over time. For immediate results, I looked some info up on the Internet and will try some of the suggested solutions to get rid of the smell. I will leave it to you to look up the info on the Internet and try the solution that best suits you.

I didn't buy these pucks for hockey, I bought them to use with my floor jack to lift my car. My plan is to glue the two of them together and then cut a slot in one of them to use on the pinch welds to lift the car. I had purchased something like this that was intended to do just this but it was about an inch smaller in diameter and certainly not as thick as two pucks glued together. Additionally, the slot that it came with was wider than I liked. Pucks are a very hard durable material (these are as well) and as such will work very well for my intended application and the fact that I can tailor it to what I need makes them a great deal.
