What a fun little hobby that I expect to provide great herbs and veggies. I hate recipes that call for 1/8 tsp fresh thyme, 1/4 tbl fresh sage, 2 tbls chopped fresh parsley, etc but I want to but won't spent the money on grocery store herbs when I only need a tiny bit - enter the Growell system. Planted first seeds on 1/31 and on 2/6 all seeds had sprouted and some verities were over an inch tall already. I am so excited by this set up - wish I had done it years ago. Absolutely love it so far!!

I do love the product, it was easy to setup and use. I am super excited about all the herbs that are growing and only took a week to see some sprouts. Just make sure you put it in a room that you are not in very often. It is in my kitchen but is so bright I can see it down the hallway. On the plus side it makes a great night light.

It is great but too many pods to close together. Nothing will grow in the middle ones.

As a beginner I found all the pieces in the box a little intimidating at first but once I had it all assembled I went out to buy some seeds to start my favourite herbs: basil, tarragon, parsley, oregano. I have also started lettuce and kale. I want to keep it simple so I only planted every other hole to allow for spread of the leaves and roots. I plan to transplant these to my garden in a couple of months but, if they grow really well I may use this as my primary garden. I'm looking forward to harvesting without having to compete with the wild rabbits in our neighbourhood. I found the instructions helpful and also appreciated the comments by other reviewers who have more experience with this type of growing medium.

Wow! So easy. Order your seeds separately. Germinate them and plant them. If you plug it in without programming, it's automatically 16h on/8h off, perfect for vegetables.

Love our hydrophobic grow system. The instructions are super simple to follow for a first time user. Plants are growing amazing and the system is working fantastic.

Lightweight. Attractive. Holds tons of seeds. All in one with light and pole already attached. So much better in all aspects including price than Aerogarden Bounty. Brilliant.

While I'm not new to hydroponics I am new to desktop style grow systems. This one has a lot going for it while at the same time has some gotchas that you should be aware of.First this unit does not come with any seeds so you're going to need to source your own. This is where doing your research and understanding what plants thrive in a system of this type is important. Not all plants are equal and different types of plants have different type of requirements. Herbs and mixed greens are the easiest to grow in the system. Flowering / fruiting plants require a bit more space and you're really looking at the dwarf determinate varieties. You probably shouldn't mix flowering plants and leafy greens in the same system as they have different nutrient requirements. However one could argue that your leafy greens will cycle through at least once before your fruiting plants even start to mature.Second this is more of a bare bones model and that it doesn't have an app or time control or any really "smart" feature. But it does have is a really quiet pump that cycles on in 30 minute increments, 16 pods that you can potentially plant in, and a fairly powerful spectrum light.When powered on you select the mode that you want the machine to operate in. Modes have a preset light output based on the type of plant you selected.After that you need to select between 16 hours and 22 hours of light on time. More hours are required during the early phases of germination.As this unit does not have any kind of sense of time. The start of the light on cycle is when the machine is powered on. Which also means in the event of a power outage it will reset the start of the light on cycle at the time the power is restored.This is not ideal. I would recommend pairing this device with both a UPS and a smart switch. This way you can avoid power disruptions, and potentially reset the start of the schedule based off of an intentional action.There is a visual water indicator at the front of the unit.For all intensive purposes this is not a set it and forget it unit. You'll need to monitor the water usage, check for root health, ensure the unit is neither too hot or too cold and the right humidity for your plants, and prune The Roots / adjust the height of the light based off of the growing need.As it's meant to be Hands-On and visited fairly regularly, I am comfortable with the technical limitations of this device especially at the price point.It's a great entry unit into desktop hydroponics that has space for far more plans than in comparable models but also comes with less "smart" features

I already have a small 8-pod hydroponics growing system and a 12-pod system that I love, so I jumped at the chance to get this bigger 16 pod system to expand my indoor hydroponics garden. The light pole adjusts up to just over 15-inches. My smaller one only goes to 10.8 inches max so it doesn’t take long for my plants to reach the light ceiling, while the light on this provides more head room for growth. Although there are 16 pods, I find that if you fill all 16 pods, it will get overly cramped very shortly as your plants grow in. If you are planning on using this just as a starter only and will transplant, then using all 16 pods will work just fine….for me, I am using this to grow mostly herbs and find they do better when I use only ½ of the pod spaces and even less when growing plants like lettuce. I also like to stagger my plants so they mature at different times for harvest. This kit comes with 6 hole covers (to cover up the pod holes that I am not using), which is enough if I am growing herbs, but for my vegetables, I use only ⅓ of the pod spaces, so 6 hole covers is not enough.This is a larger grow system and comes with everything you need to get started, except for the seeds. At 16 pods, this is the largest hydroponics growing system I own. It is a bit more expensive than the smaller 8-12 pod systems ($129.99 plus a $15 off coupon that the time of this review), but with that said…for the size and quality of this hydroponics system, I would say the price is very reasonable. The kit is easy to set up, has a good 8L sized water well that has enough capacity to last a few days before refilling is needed. There is an auto timer and 3 light modes. You can set the timer to automatically adjust the light cycle based on your plant’s needs, which is very convenient. The water tank has a water-level viewing window and the water pump runs very quiet, not too noticeable.Overall a very good system for the money. I have not had it long enough to rate it for durability. Only time can tell, but for now, so far so good. Keeping fingers crossed that this will last many many grow seasons.
