I hesitated getting one of these because I don't have a green thumb. But after reading a bunch of reviews I decided to give it a shot. I ordered a bunch of different herb seeds separately and then followed the directions that come with this kit. Easy to set up, easy to get going. I don't know if it's the quality of the seeds or the time of year but I've had success only with basil, chives and dill. Other seeds never sprouted. Still, I'm very happy with what I'm seeing. This kit comes with everything you need except seeds. It even has a generous supply of plant fertilizer. You mix it with water and use with included applicator bottles. The lights are quite bright. The water circulation motor is very quiet. Overall, a very cool looking effective product.

I love this! It’s my first time trying out gardening while living in my apartment so I’m excited to see how they turn out! I’m not sure if the LED light cycle (16hr on 8hr off) actually works cause I haven’t noticed it turn off itself or not. It says in the instructions it has that cycle but I don’t mind turning it off myself before I go to bed. You don’t want the lights to be on 24/7. Seeds need rest too.The seeds I bought at a local grocery store and they’ve actually grown quite quickly. The ones in the photo probably took about a week or so. It holds a ton of water and stays pretty full for a while surprisingly! The light extends pretty tall as well. Easy assembly and variety of extra tools to use. I’d recommend this one for sure!

I purchased this hydroponic growing system, and I am thoroughly impressed with its performance. The system is easy to set up, even for beginners.What really stands out is how quickly my plants started growing. Within just a few weeks, I noticed vibrant, healthy leaves and strong stems. The system circulates water efficiently, which prevents the risk of over-watering and ensures that the plants are getting a consistent supply of nutrients.The environment for plant growth is incredibly controlled, which means I can grow crops all year round, regardless of outdoor weather conditions. At first, the number of items to unpack and learn about was daunting, but after getting familiar in a few minutes, it all made sense and was simple to proceed with. The design is very thorough and comes with everything you need, down to the finest detail. They even provided a quick start guide that is laminated so any drips of water won’t ruin it. One tip I figured out is to use the little domes upside down filled with water to soak your seeds. And place all the domes side by side in one bowl to protect them while soaking, and remember to label them around the bowl while soaking. This keeps the varieties separately identified and safe. The price for everything that you get is very economical and inexpensive. I also figured out after the first day, to power it up at a time that is in sync with real sunrise so that the plants will get some darkness while the natural sun is down. Also, the vegetable light setting is very bright so setting the 18 hours on during daytime hours is best for less disturbance in the home. I even found a room to keep it in where we don’t live to shut out the brightness. The unit is very very quiet. To hear the pump, you have to put your ear next to the unit and listen carefully. This product is so well designed and made that I can’t be more impressed. And, for the lower price, I am stunned and do very much recommend this to anyone wanting fresh herbs, especially in the winter months as was my reason for hydroponic-ing. Edit: The marker stakes did not fit in the side holes. And the stickers covered too much surface to be useful.

UPDATE, 28 May 23, Appears problem with first crop was more about the seeds than the unit. Still there was a problem with the included seed pods that were left, but new pods worked fine and 2nd crop is growing pretty well. So I am keeping this unit. I think the $40 i paid is a fair price. I've seen the price vary and go up to about $58. Seems high IMO. At that price I'd check all options, there are many. I have this 8 pod unit and a 12 pods unit. A problem both share is once growth takes off it gets very crowded fast. No problem if you're going to replant stuff in dirt but not as productive if you're using these stand alone. Upgrading rating to a 4. Will update again in about 6 months to report how it holds up over time.Original Review - Bought this kit on sale when listed for $40. The kit is mostly plastic and feels a bit flimsy but if you're careful it should be fine. The lights and pump work as intended. I really like that the light array can be angled up 90 degrees. It allows easy access to the back row of pods and should make cleaning easier as well. But again be careful when handling. So far with the first crop results not impressive. Three of the grow pods developed mold and only 2 grow pods sprouted. Not sure if it's the system or the seeds ( no seeds come with the kit). I am trying different seeds that worked well in my other kit - we'll see. Noticed the cages for the grow pods are shorter than my other kit and the grow pods seem to sit too high. Am experimenting with some of the grow pods by cutting a bit off the tip - we'll see. Considering the quality for an 8 pod unit and assuming I can get the growing kinks worked out , $40 seems like a fair price. It appears its regular price is around $60 and at that I'd think twice. For now final judgment is on hold. Will update and reevaluate later
