This is one of those things that I might not necessarily need, but it's nice to have. Without this, I'd hold measuring tape against the drill bit and try not to slide my finger against the sharp edge of the drill bit while setting the depth. With this little gauge, I can just rest the bit in the groove and set the depth accordingly. I like that.

This is a very nicely built gauge that is all metal. The markings are very clear and are in 32nds of an inch and mm. The gauge is marked to 4” and 100mm but the maximum useable depth is 3 11/16” or 94mm. This limit is imposed by the stop bolts that keep the movable bar on the tool. The measuring bar moves smoothly and the set screw is easy to tighten with one hand. You can use the outside of the gauge for setting blade height or depth of a router. There is a small amount of play in the measuring bar which amounts to less than 1mm, ok for woodworking but probably not for metalwork.The gauge comes in a nice metal box padded with foam, but there are no instructions. The listing shows some instructional pictures which help a bit, but there is another listing on Amazon for what appears to be an identical gauge and it includes a video that is quite helpful.This gauge makes setting drill stop collars so much easier because it holds everything together while you tighten the set screw. For saw blade depth it’s also very easy to set an accurate measurement. At $41 it is a little expensive and there are other sellers who sell this for less than $30.
