Works well in filtering out sediment from San Francisco water, which used to be very good Hetch-Hetchy water. Sadly, San Francisco has been adding ground water to the mix and water quality has declined, hence the need for the sediment filter.

They appear of high quality and seem to work well; no chlorine taste or water smell. I historically have had trouble aligning the filter opening with the opening at the top, because as you screw the cylinder casing on, the filter in side juggles a little to the side creating less than a perfect alignment. I finally fixed this by packing ice around the filter when I screw it up into place. This means it stays in one place while you install it.

Love this system! Have been using in my 3-family home for 5-years. Replace every 6-months. Great value and my water smells and tastes so good. I recommend this to everyone and I am extremely picky about water quality. I think if you had a single family home you would only replace once a year. Worth it. Easy to install for my husband who had the upper body strength.

Produced arrived undamaged (I think) and seems to work after initial installation. These filters are great. However, someone really needs to get a packaging specialist involved with these filters because as the picture shows, the transit to its final destination is a gamble the way it is packaged (item was in a larger box with no other padding or packaging). These items are costly so a bit of improvement here would be appreciated.

I have several items from Home Master. All great. Only bad thing, Amazon decided to pack it without ANY wrapping. It was loose in the box and arrived cracked. Luckily I had another cartridge I was able to transfer the media into.

I have this in a 3-stage whole house filter setup. It has been solid since the first day I installed it. Having moved down to central Florida, I realized almost immediately how hard and unappealing city/county water was down here. A strong smell of sulfur and showers that left my skin dry almost immediately. After much research, i settled on a 3-stage filter setup. I did this because i didn't want to deal with salinating water every so often. While this isn't a perfect solution, it is much improved to what i have, further - it has the extra step of providing a much cleaner water table for clothes and dishes - which come out cleaner. It has been a year and 2 weeks since I installed it, so this time around was just a filter change. The process was easy and straight forward, removed cylinders washed them with a hose (didn't do the bleach cleaning as the home is a new construction as of last year when i installed the filters. Some things to note :- removing the last filter in line first and working backwards helped in removal of the first filter closest to water supply- leaving off middle filter housing while removing and installing first filter helped in ease of access to first filter (that was just my experience yours may vary).- use PLENTY of silicon lubricant on the rings ( helps to keep them doing their job for a longer time) and on the threads of the cylinder.- when you first turn off the water and remove the cylinders there will be (plenty) of water leakage, plan for this.- cleaning the cylinders will require a separate water source, my neighbors/friends were happy to let me use their hose.- ended up using one and a half small waterproof silicon lubricant tubes (got mine in plumbing isle of Lowes).Like i said, changing the filters was a snap - took me all of 30 minutes

**Update Oct 20th, 2018** - I just installed my 3rd set (3 years service) of this filter (in combination with their 1 micron sediment). I continue to love this filter and the great tasting water it puts out. I'm on city water, in a new house, in a fairly new neighborhood, but the 1 micron filter still caught plenty of junk. Amazon packaging of this items leaves a lot to be desired. The filter, which is fairly heavy ~10lbs, is packaged inside of a generic box with several inches space all around. Rather than fill the space with peanuts or airpacks, they thrown in a single sheet of brown paper which does very little. My last filter arrived with a cracked top, which was actually pretty tough to notice unless you were looking for it. I suggest you order your filter in advance and thoroughly inspect it prior to installation.*Original Post*I purchased this unit after doing a lot of research on other companies AND their filters. I believe that Home Master (Perfect Water Technologies) offers the highest quality water filters, made in the USA. Many other brands offer filters and do not disclose where they are manufactured. Many other brands have cheaper filters that don't last as long. Many other brands don't get consistent reviews for taste and water quality the way these filters do. The first time you pick and feel the weight of the KDF85 filter, you'll know that you're getting what you paid for.I'm on city water, so I specifically purchased this KDF85 filter for it's ability to remove both Chlorine and Chloramines (google it if you don't know, Chloramines are new and becoming common disinfection chemicals, my water company uses them). I knew the carbon media in the KDF85 filter would improve the water taste, which it does. I did not do a water quality test before and after this filter install; the improved taste of the water combined with the good reputation of this company is all the proof I need personally that the water quality is dramatically improved.
