The timer knob only turns to the right for longer times. You cannot turn it to the left, but must wait for the timer to return to zero. Only one heater element top and bottom. Unbelievably cheap.

We have had a black and decker for almost 20 years. It finally failed; tried so hard to find the same exact size for my appliance garage but they are all much bigger. I ordered this one, tried it and it filled with smoke and was not easy to see the controls so returned it. Unfortunately, I just went with buying a toaster!
