I had to buy these to install a new doorknob in my mobile home. Mobile home everything is just smaller scale. It worked beautifully! The case arrived cracked though. Tools themselves seem well made though.

I ran it in reverse and it kept filling the holes. Maybe a left handed version would be better for me.

I have a set of one-piece hole cutters with obviously fixed diameter guide bits. They’re as easy to handle as standard drill bits and they cut holes fine. However, this kit addresses two downsides:The first improvement over my fixed set of 6 cutters and is the collection of diameters available here. Although I most often work in the range of an inch diameter or less, I appreciate the variety. Both inch and metric sizes are stamped on the side of each cutter. They’re a bit small and tricky to read without close light and/or magnification, but that may be more a comment on my aging eyes!Another plus is I often want a narrower guide bit, one more proportional to the outer diameter of the hole I’m cutting. This kit provides an Allen key to lock and release guide bits of various diameters. The way it work is you spin the hex bolt off and slide the hole cutter on, the rectangular opening in the cutter sits over a corresponding part at the base of the drill shaft. You then thread the bolt on to tighten it. Fully tightening and releasing the cutters is what I call a “two grip” job, meaning I need a wrench around the hex bolt and a pair of pliers to hold the round cutter. I wish the two holes on either side of the cutters were a bit larger, and allowed me to wedge a medium-sized screw driver in place – it would be quicker to both tighten and release. I can get a small screw driver into the holes but it feels risky. The kit comes with two shanks of different sizes: for hand drill and drill press – the later I would use for larger holes. The smallest diameter cutters won’t fit on the larger shank, but I quickly figured out which cutters work with which shank. With the 1 inch cutter installed and the shank tight in my 30+ year-old Makita drill (new brushes, still going strong) the cutter made short work cutting through the plywood top of my workbench. The parts all come doused in oil – luckily unscented (probably) mineral oil – so have paper towels or a rag handy when first opening the kit.And speaking of opening, I have issues with the case. First of all that small round orange button on the front is NOT what you think it is – a snap to pull the top over or through - and you’ll risk cracking the case lid if you try. That round orange piece is a locking key you have to pull directly out. Even after doing so however, you still have to GENTLY pry up the clear plastic top to avoid cracking it. Once open, the molded clear plastic holder for the blades and bits is extremely thin – the kind of plastic you might throw away as packing if you encountered it in another product. Bottom Line: More effort to assemble and use than one-piece hole cutters But solidly made, holds tight, with a good selection of hole diameters.
