The MaxMed Heat Moisture Exchange filter (HME) for CPAP machines is designed to provide passive humidification during CPAP therapy. The HME filter is attached to a mask elbow in order to take in heat and moisture from the user’s exhaled breath. The moisture is then returned into the air stream for inhalation to help prevent dryness at the lungs. MASK: When selecting a mask, the MaxMed HME filter for CPAP machines will not work with masks that have a short tube extended from the mask frame. The HME filter must be very close to the moisture of exhale air to function properly. It must be connected to a mask with a simple elbow in order to give optimal results. CLEANING: The MaxMed HME cannot be cleaned. Originally, the manufacturer found the HME to be suitable only for one night’s use. After further research and testing, the device has been approved for up to seven (7) night’s usage. The MaxMed HME filter is manufactured in the USA and compatible with all CPAP, APAP, or BiPAP machines.

I've been surprised at how good these are. CPAP users get warnings from youtube reviewers that HME filters aren't nearly as good as a water chamber, but this isn't what I have found at all, I can't really tell the difference. To be fair, I live in the UK which is rather a humid place to start with, and I haven't used them in dry weather (sadly we haven't had any dry weather for a while), but I have developed a lot of confidence in them.

These are great for adding some humidity to my mini CPAP that does not have a humidifier. I actually put a tiny bit of water in these before I go to bed. Make sure you put it on the side of the hose closer to your face. It works better that way.

I have been using my regular Resmed AirSense 10 hose and mask with the AirMini through an after market hose adapter. The AirMini is quite noisier than the AirSense and found that these humidifier filters help decrease the noise level when inhaling. Also added some distilled water to the filter itself to increase the moisture level and had varying degrees of success (a little harder to get air in/out initially but vastly more moisture during the night). This product seems like a winner!

Often difficult to find distilled water while traveling internationally. This worked to substitute for distilled water for humidity. The machine did get hot by morning. It was unfortunate to dispose of these plastic devices every three days.

After having to buy distilled water on every travel trip to use it with my cpap, I learned that this new product is the replacement. No more distilled water. Just buy this little product and put it between the tube and the travel cpap and you are ready to go. Each one lasts just under a week, and they come individually packed. It takes the worry and the hassle out of traveling if you have a cpap or bipod machine. An excellent product. By the way, my brand of cpap doesn't accept products made by other companies. Amazon sells an adapter, so this fits perfectly.

I use my Z2 CPAP any time I'm camping or traveling. It gets a lot of use, but it painfully dries my nasal passages out when using it. These HHE moisture filters help a lot in preventing this drying condition. They work best with a mask where the HHE filter connects very close to your nose and mouth.

this fits as expected. seems to have a hissing noise that the water reservoir doesn't have. Can't tell when these are used up.
