These tuners suck for me. I purchased them for a Taylor 424 CE. First of all the adapter plates that came with the tuners would not line up with the holes. They were a half inch too short. So I actually lined them up and drilled holes to mount them directly onto the headstock. That wasn’t too difficult. I say they suck because they do not stay in tune.I have to re-tune my guitar every time I play. The first thing I do when I purhase a guitar is put locking tuners on them. I put Fender locking tuners on my Strat and Grover’s on 2 Martins and 1 Guild acoustic guitars. They stay in tune forever. I do not recommend these Hipsters for any guitar. Go with Grovers.

Purchased these as an upgrade for a Breedlove Pursuit, which comes with so-so tuners.Have a similar [nonlocking] set of Hipshot tuners on another guitar which I loved, so that was the guiding decision, previous good experience. These are excellent. Smooth and micro adjustments. Look lovely, too.Installing these was very easy but note- the 'no screws' install bars do NOT work on all headstocks. On my Breedlove the tuner spacing was too wide on one side and I could not use the bars. I opted to simply fill the old tuners' screw holes and put these in a new screw location. I would not have done so with a very expensive or vintage/collectible instrument- I would have found a direct footprint replacement. But most of my guitars are 'players instruments' and I often customize without concern for resale value. Your approach may be different- be aware the bars should be MEASURED to see if they work on your headstock.

Didn't know how these were going to work - I have relatively new LP Jr. (2016) and swapped out the tuners. I needed to ream the peg holes a little to get the cauls to fit properly but that's to be expected. These fit in perfect, no issues, no major surgery. Took about 20 minutes from start to finish. They work great and the pegs now match in color to the rest of the updates (I went black and replaced the chrome for that "black and yellow" feel). Updated the pickups to black Lollars, and put on a wrap around black bridge. Tuners work great, hold the tuning well and the gear ration is more to my liking than the stock tuners.

My stock tuners for my Takamine EG361sc just died.. so I was looking for good and solid replacement. I didn't want to buy those cheap 25$ tuners nor the really expensive one.. so Hipshot was a perfect fit! Awsome quality for a great price!! Seriously thinking to change all my basic tuners on all my other guitars... locking system works flawlessly. The installation was a joke (less than 5 mins).

I’m repairing/rebuilding a used Grote es355-style semi-hollow body guitar. The tuners that come with inexpensive guitars are garbage, so these tuners were the first upgrade I wanted to get as the guitar frequently goes out of tune and took forever to tune to begin with. If you have an inexpensive guitar and are handy with tools, you might as well replace the nut at the same time. These tuners and a quality nut will greatly increase your ability to tune and stay in tune.Pros:- Easy to install (the two plate design allows for holes that aren’t perfectly aligned - see slight curve in photo)- open back gives it a classic look- finish is quality- the gear ratio allows for precise tuning- consistent, smooth rotation- super easy to install - need 10mm socket or wrench (be careful when tightening, tool can scratch finish)- string locking avoids the hassle of wrapping string on pegsCons:- as visible in picture, even with plates, original tuner screw holes might be visible (not hard to fill and touch up paint but would be nice to not have extra work)- not so much a con as my own fault, but use a proper 10mm socket, or tools with smooth edges. Finish can scratch and nut deform (see picture). I was rushing and used a crescent wrench

You can pay more for tuning machines, but you won't get a better product.I love that Hipshot tuners also offer a variety of interchangeable knobs. I particularly like the "industrial" knobs, which are round knurled knobs. If you've ever tuned a guitar, you know that some of the flat, standard knobs will be in the "wrong" position and force you to change your hand position in order to get the motion you need to tune the string. With the "industrial" knobs, your hand position doesn't matter, so you get a more consistent feel, which speeds the tuning process and aids in consistency. This is my first set of black Hipshot tuners, and I find the finish to be very well done. I particularly like the open gears, which adds some color to the tuning machines and gives them a more mechanical look. The black is even better, in that regard, than the nickel or chrome I've always used. The locking mechanism is easy to use and allows for fast string changes. The system is made to retrofit on nearly any guitar without having to drill holes or drive those tiny screws, if you don't want to. The bushings are well made, matched to the finish, and fit, perfectly. I love everything about Hipshot tuners. They're simply incredible, and a great value, to boot.

I bought these for a Les Paul. They did not fit at all, but they fit another guitar perfectly that didn't have such a thick headstock. These tuners work amazingly well and the installation was a breeze. The Les Paul will need taller pegs ordered. I really should have done my research on that.
