This is one of the most common reagents used to make pure alumina sol-gel systems, for spinning high temperature refractory fiber usable up to about 1650-1800°C. Aluminum chloride can also be used, but I do not see it for sale at comparable pricing.For even higher temperatures, it becomes necessary to switch to zirconia based systems using zirconium acetate or chloride and yttrium nitrate, which are usable up to about 2200°C or so.Basically, you can use this product to make insulation for furnaces using molybdenum disilicide or silicon carbide heating elements, or as an intermediate layer in ultra high temperature vacuum or argon furnaces.
