A Square Nut is a four-sided nut that can be used in a channel or welded into place. Square nuts have a greater surface in contact with the part being fastened and therefore provide greater resistance to loosening, but also a greater resistance to tightening as well. Square nuts are used along with flat washers in order to avoid damage from their sharp edges and help to increase the strength of the fastener.

Used to replace a missing square nut on my craftsman push mower. Obviously for my use I don't need 40; however, the replacement T-handle kit did not have the nut.

I used these in building a bench with almost-through tenon joinery on the bottom stretchers. I used these nuts with 1/4-inch bore square washers and 5/16-inch x 4 1/2-inch bolts and embedded these square nuts like bed-bolts. They are stout, No give, and pro all the way. That bench, with only bottom stretchers is rock solid. I can’t use upper stretchers, so all of this compensates for that.

I use these for my 3d printer projects where I need them to work with standard 1/4 20 camera tripods... JB welded in place they work great... being square cleaning out any corners is easier or totally un-needed.... I'll be ordering more again for the next project soon...
