These clamps have physical limitations. There becomes a small-size challenge that the clamps simply cannot accommodate. I work with these SOI8 EEPROMs often and thought I'd try these clip-ons. Unfortunately, the clamps are just not precision enough to provide reliable electrical connection once the chip size reaches the lower end of the regime. The product ad is the problem and it should be completely rewritten to emphasize that the SOI8 profile is too small to clamp onto if the chip is mounted on a PC board. Sure, if the chip is off the board, it can be clamped in this device but what's the point in that? There are far better chip holders that are secure and electrically reliable for free-floating chips (vs ones soldered onto PCBs already). When programming EEPROMs, just a microsecond disconnect or noisy contact will generate data errors. Solution: I bought a $7 ZIF (zero-insertion force) socket and using free Arduino UNO software, the cloning was a breeze. In the fast-paced world of hi-tech miniaturization, only the better manufacturers can keep up. Other reviews support my conclusions to include better product recommendations. Thank goodness people donate their time to help others avoid the pitfalls of lessor competitors. Cheers.

This clip just wouldn't stay on the IC due the straight jaw. Ended up buying the Pomona product which works having a slight lip at the end of the jaw.

Doesn't stay on. A complete waste of money. Avoid this one. I ended up getting the blue Pomona which is more expensive but works great.
