Overall I have been satisfied with the camera during my use of it, up until it stopped working after 8 months. I have sent multiple emails to Hikmicro customer support. At first they responded to my emails and asked me to send info about the unit and date of purchase. After I sent that info they haven’t said anything. It’s been almost 2 weeks now without any response. I use my thermal camera daily for work, and if they won’t even respond to my emails, I don’t think I’ll be buying any more products from this company. Especially considering it should be under warranty. Very disappointed. It’s not the charger, the battery seems to have failed.

This unit works so well. It has multiple color palettes and thermal color choices. You are able to link to its own hotspot wirelessly and download. The only unique thing is that while it does have a usb-c input/output, you cannot connect it via usb-c to usb-c. You have to use a regular usb to usb- c cord and it will work fine.

Bonjour. Bien cordialement.

Great resolution for the price, quick to power up and use. Very reliable so far. I wasn't sure about going for the camera-style form factor rather than the more traditional pistol grip type device, but it seemed good value to gave it a try. As it turned out, it works very well, is very easy to use. Spent a lot of time researching the different brands and models and this one seems to be remarkably good value for the resolution it offers, and it does indeed work very well. Very sensitive. Just power it up and within a few seconds you get brightly coloured thermal pictures combined with the outline of the image from the 'real' camera. It is amazing to see hot and cold water pipes glowing in the walls and floors. I bought it to try and locate the source of a leak and it looks as if this one job will more than cover the cost of the device - within about 5 minutes of powering it up we could see the path of a hot water pipe embedded in the floor that looks as if it runs right through where the leak appears to be coming from. We thought the pipe ran behind the shower and were about to take the shower out, but this device makes the pipes litererally glow, we can see there aren't any in the wall where we thought there were. Fantastic bit of kit.

This is a fantastic alternative to the underwhelming and outdated FLIR C5 Pocket Cam.If you are in the market for one of these thermal cameras, you need to be aware of some things about them *In General*.A. These cameras are only as good as the parameters you plug in. So if you are seeing disparate temps, then you need to check both your emissivity and humidity settings. Of course other settings can be adjusted for corrections to thermal inaccuracies but that is outside the scope of this review.B. HIKmicro recommends sending this camera in every year for calibration. Keep this in mind before buying it. This is a tool, not a toy. While it can certainly be used as a toy, to get accurate data from it, it needs to be maintained as the delicate instrument it is.C. HIKmicro confuses people by having different firmware versions on their website and in their HIKviewer application. For example, I can go download one firmware version from the HIK website and manually install it, then connect to the HIKviewer and I am notified of a slightly newer firmware where you can simply install the newer version of firmware through the app.Note 1: BE VERY CAREFUL installing firmware through the app. If any data corruption occurs when transferring the firmware to the Pocket 2, then it could brick your device. You are better off installing the slightly older firmware with the Pocket 2 connected to a USB C cable as a mass storage device than risking bricking your expensive camera with a poor data transfer to the camera over your network. The camera is VERY SIMPLE TO USE and doesn't even require reading the manual. It's very common sense to figure it out, but if you don't understand thermal cameras, the manual is still a good idea.REMEMBER: One of the reasons your temps may be off are because your emissivity isn't set correctly. Physics apply here, convection plays a part in everything too. The camera may show spurious temperature readings if you don't set the humidity and emissivity correctly. The camera has a VERY COOL blending feature that allows you to take regular photos with varying degrees of thermal overlay transparency, 50%, 75%, and 100%. 50% allows you to see a photo of the object(s) you're photographing while still showing thermal camera data. It's a very cool feature and is HIK's answer to what Seek is doing on their cameras. From what I can tell, the camera DOES NOT allow you to record sound when shooting video. Of course there are a number of workarounds for this, but keep this in mind. If I am mistaken about this, I will correct this in the future. The camera is extremely sensitive and does an excellent job of seeking and locking on to the hottest, coldest, and peak mid range temps. It's quite accurate.Note 2: Do yourself a favor and TURN OFF WLAN, Bluetooth, and Hotspot modes to improve battery life. The battery life is excellent but you have to be reasonable. The camera must constantly calibrate itself to give you the best looking image possible. THIS IS ALL THERMAL CAMERAS AND MONOCULARS (I have a $3500 thermal monocular and it does the same thing as this little guy). Point is, calibration and communications will eat any battery.TIP: Though only 8 megapixel in camera, you can upscale these images in Topaz Gigapixel or Topaz Photo AI.I actually bought this camera to tune scientifically to perform a paranormal investigation into San Diego's Whaley House.Good luck!

Great performance in a convenient shirt pocket size. I was hesitant about the focus-free lens after using a more expensive one where I could dial in the focus, but it works well. Camera interface is satisfactory, and the firmware continues to be updated to improve usability. The latest update improves the swipe-down menu performance. The free analysis software is fantastic. You don't need to worry about the in-camera settings because nearly all of them can be changed after using the desktop software, especially the fusion image alignment with the thermal image and the visible light image. The only thing I couldn't change afterwards was the upper end temperature sensitivity, so if you are trying to take an image of a high temperature source, be sure to change to the extended temperature range first before taking images.Other notable features: The remote view/control operation using a tablet or phone, which even includes 2-way voice communication - a feature not mentioned in the brochure, but is described in the manual. The video mode is great but less useful for analysis. Both in regular imaging mode and video mode the camera will pause briefly to calibrate. This happens with most thermal cameras and helps maintain its accuracy. The resolution is good, and the sensitivity is high so you can see small temperature differentials. It's a powerful tool, and as with any tool, users should learn the basics of thermal imaging physics in order to make the most of it.Overall, I'm suitably impressed by the form factor, performance, and value, and highly recommend it for anyone involved in building science, inspection, or energy performance.

The Good: compact, above average specs. in most categories for a pocket IR imaging camera at this price point. Rugged, fit & finish is very good, relatively fast boot time, lighter weight, clean sharp images, regular firmware updates & software support, several methods for wireless support, very good quality color display made with what appears to be a quality glass touch surface. Warranty coverage periods & categories are better than most others with local repair centers. Senior customer service representatives responded promptly to my inquiries & suggestions (USA based).Update: I found a fix for sloppy snapshot button. I applied a small dab of clear (or black) RTV silicone to the button, gently working it into the gap surrounding the button's edge. The carefully wipe away any excess. The next day after letting it dry the button worked with perfect resistance. I'd have to say that issue was the only major issue I've found with this camera. The Bad: shutter button has practically no resistance to arbitrarily triggering. Normal handling will trigger the shutter constantly (frustrating). Somewhat higher price point. No lens protection provided in the design (even though they’re recessed). Optional macro lens is now significantly more expensive then the competition at ($120.00, not tested yet). This camera doesn’t allow toggling on & off of floating screen digits above the ‘hot’, ‘cold’ & ‘center’ temperature points (request submitted via email & acknowledged. This would be a very useful enhancement). Nylon storage case's form factor is too tight, it's difficult to remove this camera without bending the soft case. There can be occasional annoying lag in the touchscreen response time for some functions.Opinion: The best choice for a quality, ultra-portable thermal imaging camera compared to the competition… at this time. I’ve only had the camera for about a week now. If anything, significantly changes, I’ll add it to this review.Overall: I’d recommend this purchase as the pros & cons seem to balance each other out. If you’re searching for “Pro Quality” the higher price point is a fair trade off.Update 1: Discovered Windows "Analyzer" software is unintuitive & can be frustrating. The iOS app is usable has a reasonable learning curve.Update 2: 11-23, I found a fix for the sloppy shutter button. Apply a small dab of clear or black RTV silicon rubber around & into the button's gap between the camera body gently working it while working the button up & down. Wipe away any excess and let it dry overnight. Problem solved; the button now works with minimum play as it should. No more false triggers.
