As others say - very heavy duty, nice piece of equipment BUT - no real locking mechanism!The small slot provided on upper block / pulley completely inadequate to safely stop load from falling.If you have a low enough point to hang from then you could tie off the rope (which is, I assume, what the five star reviewers probably did) but lowest branch I had there wasn’t enough rope to get the gambrel down to the animal let alone tie it off.A real shame because it IS heavy duty and well made but needs longer rope and a an actual lock out lever like other gambrels have.

The spreader bar worked great on whitetail deer and the block and tackle made it effortless to hoist the deer for skinning and butchering. I liked it so much I bought my son in law one to have at his garage!

I purchased this primarily for white tail deer. I know that was overkill, but I would rather have something that will last a lifetime, and more, rather than something on the cusp of being too weak, or marginally designed. I'm certain I will never break, bend, or damage this for the rest of my life. I won't need another one, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again!

Works, limited on height. 16’ tall barn will nit reach floor. Used several times, heavy loads might need gloves for grip. Overall. B+

Wanted something sturdy and well-built, not something that's designed to be taken apart. This is a solid piece of metal and quality pulley system with good rope. Overall, it's exceeded my expectations. I was expecting something nice and well-built, and I got that and more. This should last forever and lift anything I could ever find in the woods.
