The annoying smoke-alarm-like siren that goes off when you sit on this is awful and got my dogs in line quickly about which furniture they could not get up on. Great product.

My one year old whoodle took one leap on this thing on the couch and that was that. She did not like that sound at all. After a year of telling her to keep off this one couch, she finally got the message. I had it laying out and then put it under a throw so that I didn't have to keep it there forever, thinking if she jumped on the throw it would beep underneath and then I could get rid of the pad and just keep the throw there. But she hasn't jumped on the couch. I took the pad away and just have the throw there now and so far so good. It's been a couple of months.

I only gave 3 stars because:I purchased this to use on my couch that my dog likes to "dig" at and ruin. Well she was not scared of the noise at all, and ended up running away with and playing with the mat like a chew toy. I also think that $29 is way overpriced for a foam mat with a beeping device in it, but that's just me.This did not work for the purpose I purchased it for, HOWEVER- my cat hates it and it works on him. So if you want to keep your CAT off the counter/furniture/etc. this will work perfectly.

First purchased 3 of these about 5 years ago as I was temporarily fostering my step-daughters husky and did not want her on my sofas as she was used to doing at home. They all worked brilliantly to keep her off furniture, then were put away when she went back home. Skip forward 4 years and the move to a new bigger house with new furniture...in fact I now had 3 sets of sofas in 3 different rooms to try and keep clean from my two long-haired cats. Well, within 2 days of our move one of our cats had peed on the brand new basement sofa. We immediately covered all the 6 sofas in the house with waterproof plastic mattress covers, and I spent 3 days soaking the peed-on one in vinegar and cleaning it with a vacuum extractor...letting it dry and air out in the sun. We purchased Feliway spray and diffusers and the problem seemed to stop, so we gradually uncovered the main level sofas. Then we discovered problem 2: I had chosen a deep burgundy velour sofa set for the living room that was quickly taken as the preferred sofa set for the cats to lay on in the sun...it was also horrible to try to vacuum. Out came my 3 old Sofa Scrams and they quickly solved that problem. The basement sofa set was still covered with plastic mattress covers as once a cat has peed on something they are forever attracted to it...and my shy cat Poppy was burrowing under the covers on the loveseat in order to hide away from the world, while my problem-child cat Nutmeg was still peeing on the sofa from time to time. We had plastic, topped by old quilts (so urine would not run off and drip onto the carpet), so the sofas were protected...but the quilts needed constant laundering, and my basement smelled horrible the whole time. I tried cat-repellant, foil, putting bowls of cat food on the sofa, Feliway...nothing would stop her. Plus Poppy was burrowing in the loveseat and covering it in hairs. Finally I gave in and have paid up the money for 2 more Sofa Scrams...the ONLY thing that will work to keep the cats off the sofas...and they are MUCH easier to quickly remove than plastic covers & quilts are when WE humans actually want to sit on our own sofas! My only wish is that Sofa Scrams were made to also cover the backs and arms of sofas as I have to use 3 of them to stop the cats sleeping on our big sofa upstairs.

I currently use five of these to keep train two small dogs to stay off the furniture and the results have been effective when they are place. They make a high pitched beep similar to what a home fire alarm sounds like. After attempting to get on the furniture a few times, the dogs figured out that it was not going to fly and quickly get off. We are now at the point in training (about 2 months of use) where the mats alone are enough to detract them regardless if they are on or off.I prefer these to the other mats that we have for a number reasons. They are much larger (longer and wider), so fewer mats are required to cover the same area. It is easier to determine if the mat in on or off at a glance since the power switch is clearly labeled in contrasting colors rather than molded into the plastic housing. This mat also uses a large toggle style switch rather than a slider. This design is much more functional if you are a guy with short fingernails.My only reason for not giving this mat 5 stars is that the sensor does not include the entire mat surface. A few inches at either end are dead zones. One of my dogs has figured this out and will sometimes lay on the edge of the mat, just out of range of the sensor. While this won't be issue with a larger dog or even a large cat, this annoyance can only be avoided by purchasing additional mats. For now, I can deal with this issue since it infrequent, but it may become a problem for others.

My husband and I were looking for a way to keep our cat off the couch and another chair in our living room because she'd taken to urinating on both. This is the only product that worked in keeping her off the furniture. Its genius is its simplicity: no chemicals, no electric shock, no gates, no behavior therapy. Just a pad with a loud sonic alarm. We've purchased two in 6 months -- it has saved our furniture. And it's one of the most affordable options in pet deterrents out there.The pads have actually altered our cat's behavior. After a few weeks we were able to remove them from the furniture and the cat still stays away. If we make any changes in the home (move the location of the litter box, rearrange the furniture, change litter brands, go on vacation), we reintroduce the Sofa Scram for a week.We used the first Scram on the couch and were able to hide it zippered inside the long couch seat cushion. We were a bit concerned that the cat might learn to step around the Scram we placed on the chair because it was visible, but no -- she was not that smart. Cats jump onto the furniture, they hear the alarm, they run.I love it.
