HIC Kitchen’s Ice Pick with Safety Cover chips and breaks up blocks of ice to chill drinks and cocktails. Larger ice chunks melt slower than chips or cubes and won’t water down drinks as quickly. Simply tap the point of the Ice Pick across the slab or block of ice to etch a shallow groove. Position the point at the center of the groove and tap firmly, downward. Continue tapping at the same spot until the ice block breaks in half along the groove. Repeat these steps to create smaller pieces. Store the chunks in an ice bucket to preserve them longer. Great for breaking blocks of chocolate or using as a hole punch on wood and leather, too. A unique addition to barware, HIC’s Ice Pick adds a bit of flare when chilling and serving beverages and cocktails at every dining occasion, like holiday meals, party buffets, or outdoor entertaining. The squared wooden handle is easy to grip and keeps it from rolling away between uses. Made from solid steel and wood handle, HIC Kitchen’s Ice Pick with Safety Cover is sturdy, durable, and wipes clean with a cloth. Brought to you by HIC, a third-generation family owned and operated company in the USA since 1957.

My refrigerator ice maker dumps ice that is still a little wet, causing it to refreeze together. This ice pick solves that problem. I especially like the protection of it having a cover for the sharp point. Works great.

I needed this tool to pierce a small hole in a wooden art work so that I could insert a tiny eye bolt. Works perfectly for my need. My only complaint is that the pick slides out of the case too easily.

I don't use ice picks very often but realized we lost our other one in a hurricane. I ordered this one to keep around house when needed for certain times. Well made and now I will always have when needed. I like to be prepared LOL

This is an old-style wood-and-metal ice pick. It's not fancy; it just works. The construction is sturdy; the handle is easy to grasp even for my small hands, and the wood cover minimizes the chances of gouging yourself when you're rummaging amongst your utensils trying to find it. It makes short work of large chunks of ice that have frozen together; I tend to think it would work well on blocks of ice if necessary, although that is not something I have occasion to do very often.Edit: I ended up buying a second of this item; it turned out to be a small disappointment. The cover for this second one doesn't stay on the blade at all, and that means getting jabbed when you go to look for it in the utensil drawer. They must make hundreds of these, so you'd think they'd have it right, but apparently they don't. So - I'd say from this point out - buy someone else's ice pick if you have another occasion to do so - especially if you don't want to get jabbed when you're searching for it; I got "bitten" and actually had to take a tetanus booster when it happened to me, and that's a bit much for something that should be utterly simple! So - I say choose a different item, and avoid the trip to the Emergergency Room!opppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

A simple kitchen gadget but seems well made (and is a lot of fun to use). If you like your cubes to be a bit different then go for this. It's also surprisingly good at making "crushed" ice - far better than an automated blender as the ice shards won't melt before you get them in the glass.
