HEADS UP, THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THE DEFINITION OF SHANK IS..you order 3/4 shank for your 3/4 bore tool post and get this. 5/8....the Shank dedinition: The shank is the end of a drill bit or tooling grasped by the chuck of a drill or lathe. ... In many cases a general-purpose arrangement is used, such as a bit with cylindrical shaft and shank in a three-jaw chuck which grips a cylindrical shank tightly.

As of 12/22/18 the product description is incorrect. See attached photos for the product received.Tool engraving is: SIR0625P16 5/8” 2302-0625Threading insert type: 16IRInsert screw: M3.5x8Insert screw: Torx T15Other numbers engraved: 17B1078There is no anvil, the insert is mounted directly to the tool.Shank size is nominally 5/8”. Actual size is 0.623”.The length is 7”.There are three flats at 90 degree intervals. The back of the tool, opposite the cutting contact point, is round. Distance between flats is 0.584”. Distance between the flat and round is 0.603”.Absolute minimum bore the tool and insert will fit into with no clearance is 0.73”. Minimum practical threading bore diameter is 0.75”.The quality of the tool is as expected for a good import tool. It arrived in a typical two piece plastic tube with insert screw and one 16IR AG60 carbide insert and a Torx T15 driver. The plastic case was labeled as made in China. The tool itself has no country of origin on it. The tool is ground and is smooth with a good quality black oxide treatment. Qualitatively checking the tool hardness with an automatic center punch and visual analysis shows it to be similar to a ground and non quenched 0.625” O1 tool steel blank.Like any other import tool you can get good ones. Good ones are not cheap. This one is mid price ranged(when priced correctly and compared to Dorian) and considering that it doesn't have an anvil, it is reasonable. It seems to be of the correct value when compared to the low price end of the import tools and their apparent quality(or lack of). This tool will be used on a small 13X40 “Gunsmith” lathe with a BXA sized tool post and I will not be able to even come close to testing the max rigidity for the tool to provide any comment on that. The quality of the inserts will be whatever quality that you purchase to put in the bar and I expect it to perform satisfactorily for my home shop machining.
