This is a solid tool. The two flute spiral point makes tapping aluminum pretty easy. This is a tiny tap, and tapping any depth of hole at this size is tough with a lower quality tap. The two flute configuration makes room for chips and the spiral point pushes them out of the way through the hole. I normally hand tap this size in the drill press with a centering jig or with a tapping guide to keep the tap handle straight and in line with the hole. Note the correct tap drill size (#50) is critical.

I used this to tap threads in plastic and hardboard on model railroad rolling stock for 2-56 screws. I don’t have a tap 50 drill but used 1/16 inch with good success. The screws went in tight. I have not used this device on metal yet. However I would probably use a 5/64 inch drill bit to reduce stress when tapping the thread. Turn the tap with care, use oil for lubrication and don’t forget to reverse the movement regularly to clear the metal debris from the cutting edge.

Used it to tap holes in 3/32 inch thick mild steel (had it chucked in a drill press & turned by hand). It worked well and based on its construction it appears sturdy. It would have been nice to have it within the plastic container it was shipped with, rather than rolling around in the small ziplock baggie. The plastic container is a nicety.

Package contained a metric M2-6H tap. Not even close to a 12-28NF SAE, which is almost 3 times the diameter. Bought the proper one at Tractor Supply, which also included a 1/4-28NF tap for almost the same price.

I know this isn't rated for tapping titanium but the spiral end makes it ideal for small titanium jobs. So far I've only hand-tapped two or three quarter-inch pieces and had zero problems. I used Tap Magic as my cutting fluid and even though it's not the best for titanium it also performed perfectly.
