The tool feels a little cheap, but seems to work fine. With how little I use it, it should last a long time.

Like everyone I assumed it came with missing anvils. What people don't realize is the space for the anvil on the left the is supposed to be blank. You get 11 anvils, 10 are in the anvil holders and 1 is in the tool itself. The washers come in a little baggie under the gauge!!! So 11 anvils total and 12 spaces, and one of anvils is already in the gauge! Just count the anvils on the sticker on the bottom, it only goes to "no 11". I too thought the washers were missing but they are really small and placed in a bag with gauge! Check everything before writing misleading reviews people!

One bad review usually gets me paranoid and I was pretty scared of this one even though the price isn't that bad. Ended up being a good tool. I'm no machinist but it did the job just fine for measuring the bores of a 5.3 ls engine I am working on.

I was working on a over heating problem on a John Deere 40 Utility tractor. After assessing the problem I realized I needed to tear down the motor and make some repairs. The problem was the head gasket and a cracked edge of one of the pistons. I removed not only the head but the pistons too and then cleaned up all the pieces to be sure I was making all the right moves. I purchased a honing tool and honed the cylinder walls to removed any build up of any kind in the cylinder. After watching some YouTube videos I realized that I should take some measurements of the cylinder to make sure the cylinder was round and not egg shaped. I went to Amazon looking for a dial cylinder bore gauge which I ordered and received in two days. Following the directions of the gauge I assembled it, calibrated it and then went to the tractor and took my measurements of the two cylinders on my tractor. The gauge was easy to use and in a matter of minutes I had verified that the tractor was ready for the repair parts. I would recommend a first time buyer of this type of tool should watch YouTube first because there are several great videos on different types and brands of this type of gauge and their explanations were very helpful.

If you have a large set of micrometers to set this with and you use it with care, I think this bore gauge is a great value for the money. Use it gently, ie: don't let it snap out against the stop when you pull it out of the bore. Worked great for checking my cylinder bores.

I have a toolbox full of Starrett, Mitutoyo etc., but needed a replacement bore gauge on short notice for checking and setting bearing clearances on an engine. Took the chance on this set, and was glad that I did. Surprisingly well built, accurate and consistently repeatable in its measurements. It worked great, and at this point I see no reason to replace it with a more expensive brand until I absolutely have to.

inexpensive and accurate. I am sure there are far more accurate instruments out there. All I am saying is this worked great for me. I measured the bore on a Chevy 350 small block. I zeroed on a mic and checked it often. The gage stayed accurate and did not need any adjustments. So for a shade tree mechanic this worked out great.

I pulled it out of the box, installed the 4 inch pin, checked my mic against my gauge block, found max travel to be 4.0270", zeroed the bore gauge at 4.0000. This gauge tells me my bores are 4.001, round with no taper, no marks left in the bore from checking. Very happy with the purchase, reringing the motor as I type this. 40 bucks well spent. To my engine building bothers and sisters, get one, you will not be disappointed. You just need a micrometer/precision calipers and a gauge block to set it up correctly. Look up a Zeiko 8" caliper and maybe a 123 block with good reviews if you don't already have them or something equivalent.
