The adhesive can’t be relied on, as it shouldn’t be. If relying on add something mechanical or permanent adhesive.

Attempted to wrap my AEM intake box with the lava shield in conjunction with a high temp spray adhesive. I wiped my metal intake with alcohol, cleaned with water and made sure it was dry before install. Spray the adhesive and let it tack for ~30sec (as stated on the adhesive directions). Laid down the heatshield lava shield and it would not stick. Edges began to fray, and I looked up Heatshield Products youtube page stating to spray clear coat paint on the edges to combat the fraying. I did so, but it did not help much. Fraying got worse. My AEM intake looks like a mess at this point and after measuring the running temperatures of my intake before and after installing the heatshield, there was no difference. I'm not sure what else to do to try and make this product work, but I'm disappointed and upset that my new AEM CAI is ruined.

I used this as a heat shield under my gas tank on my motorcycle. It works very well - no more hot gasoline. It also has a look that is similar to carbon fiber, which is nice if you like that.Tips:- If you are using multiple pieces to cover an area, don't assume you can overlap it. The adhesive is very strong, but it won't stick to the actual material.- The cut edges will fray - depending on the application, you might want to put some nail polish or adhesive on the edge to keep it from fraying. I wouldn't advise this for truly high-temp uses as it could create a hot spot (or just burn away). That being said, I'm not an engineer so take this tip with a grain of salt :)

This was a great buy. It was for my husbands motorcycle. The lower part of the gas tank was getting really hot from motor and burning his legs. The heatshield product has really helped. He just cut it to size and added it to the back side of the gas tank. Great product and works as advertised. 👌😁

I bought this to cover my custom Air Intake box I built. I had some left over and did my KN intake tube as well. Before the tube would get too hot to touch. The combo of the Box and the wrap made the running temperature inside the box stay at ambient air temp which was 80 degrees and the engine compartment was at 160 and above.. the tube that ran through the engine compartment was cool to the touch as well, great improvement and it installed very easy! looks even better with the carbon fiber.

First, the appearance of this material is quite good, and it's heat shielding is reasonable. The issues I have are that the adhesive used is not strong enough, which allows edges to come up. When the edges come up, they begin to fray, and the only way to resolve this is to cut the ends off. I do wish the weave of the material was tighter. In some areas I can see the aluminum chassis through the shielding. I've witnessed all of these problems on other builder's cars. For the price, I would expect better performance. However, since most of my engine compartment is already covered with it, switching out to something else would be expensive and time consuming.

This does not reduce the heat at all. I even tried using two sheets, but did not help. The adhesive works great, does not run out or melt.
