I bought this to replace an old electronic musical chime that stopped working. Easy to install. This works fine if all you need is a ding-dong sound. It is just a mechanical ding dong tone generated via an electromagnetic signal that drives a metal pin against two flat metal plates to make the two notes. Like a mini-xylophone with just two notes.

Could be louder, but isn't bad. It is a two tone chime that isn't obnoxious. I didn't have to modify anything to mount it in place of my old burned out chime. Looks OK mounted on my wall.

Easy to install, used old cover from a previous doorbell (more decorative). We have ring gen 2 that was originally on battery power which needed to be charged every 3 weeks. With hardwired via this chime and transformer now work great and can hear chime without phone. Need 16v 30va transformer with Ring set up otherwise chime will not work. Reminder with Ring, use the app to set up the chime level too.

"It's just a doorbell; either it works or it doesn't. What else is there to say?" You'd be surprised. As human beings we have accomplished incredible feats including sending people to the moon and curing horrible diseases. Yet when it comes to the doorbell, a simple device whose only task is to informs us when someone is at our front door, we struggle mightily. Search for a doorbell and you will come across all sorts of audio atrocities: some are obnoxiously loud, others are ineffectively quiet, and others produce a sound so irritating that they put you on edge every time a guest arrives. Then there are the visual blunders: door chimes so large that they occupy half of a wall, or ones that just look like a discarded early prototype for a military communication device. How did we go so far astray? All a doorbell really "needs" to do is provide a pleasant (or at least tolerable) sound each time someone presses the button outside your door while ideally not looking like an eyesore on your wall. Fortunately that is just what this one does.Acoustically, it produces the traditional "ding-dong" sound, and it does so with real metal chimes, not a fake-sounding squawky speaker. It sounds neither old-fashioned nor overly trendy. The chime is easy to hear from several rooms away (for me at least) but it doesn't cause you to need a change in undergarments if it sounds while you are nearby. In terms of visual aesthetics, I wouldn't necessarily call it attractive, but neither is it an eyesore. It is neutral enough to fit with most decor and styles and it maintains a presence on the wall without drawing attention to itself.Bottom line: If you want a doorbell that makes a statement or allows you to express your own personal style, this isn't the chime for you. But if you want a reliable, pleasant-sounding doorbell that is moderately attractive, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better option.

We replaced our old mechanical chime with this one. I upgraded the transformer to 16V 10VA, and installed this unit vertically (which is better for our location). Went in without a hitch and has a beautiful chime sound. Some complained of cheap springs, but I disagree. The springs have to be just that strength to achieve an equally loud "dong" sound after the powered "ding". Stronger springs would make for a louder 2nd sound. The overall loudness is fine for our medium size house. Some commented about it being too soft, but it is actually much louder without the cover. So perhaps the openings in the cover could be widened to allow a greater sound level to emerge.

We wanted something that wouldn't be as noticeable in our hallway, and this one is much more low profile than our old one. The color is also more of a pure white and not an off white which is good. Install was easy enough. Only thing we have noticed is that typically when someone rings the doorbell we only hear the second chime unless you quickly jab the button, but that could be an issue with the button itself. We got a new doorbell button in the mail so that will let us know if it's the chime or button. In all, we are happy with it.
