I was outside in the evening sitting in my hot tub when I noticed what smelled like burning. It's the dead of winter and it was a snowy night so no one was doing any sort of bonfire in the neighborhood. I don't use heat for my chickens because I live in a suburban neighborhood and their run is attached to my garage, and my garage is quite close to other homes on my street. In the freezing cold, dripping wet in my swimsuit, I rush back to the run as there is only ONE thing that is hooked up to electrical back there: this heated dog dish. I walk in and it is smoking. There was not a fire, thankfully, but the top edge side had started becoming black and was smoking, a part that no water was touching and no water would ever touch! The bowl was full over water so it was not an issue with me using it improperly. I just keep imagining what could have happened if I had not been outside that night! I live so close to other homes in my area. This is supposed to be a safe item. I will be contacting the manufacturer with photos as well.

We feed a few stray cats that come around and of course they need water too. This bowl never froze in sub freezing temps and was a great choice. Would buy again or recommend.

Works as advertised. We have had seriously cold weather in the past two weeks - 5. Several feral cats congregate on our back patio where we have a shelter to keep them warm. Providing water for them wastage challenge requiring breaking the ice on their water bowls several times a day. Now we just fill this bowl once daily and they have fresh water all day. We wish we had purchased this bowl years ago.

Very happy with this product, better quality then expected. Food and water dishes are a good size for anythig from a cat to a large dog. Works great, no worries about frozen food for the outdoor critters.'

Hi, I live in New England so we get pretty cold winters. So far it has worked well. The water doesn't get warm so the top layer still freezes, but so much better than a block of ice without it.

I purchased the heated double bowl for a cat living in the garage this winter. She has a heated house and heated area to play, but the food and water were icing over. This double bowl works very well. It’s been on for about 2 months so far. It’s important to know that the food bowl is so deep that the cat would have to put its whole head down inside to eat. Not happening. I got a Corelle ceramic cereal bowl and placed it into the stainless bowl - it fits perfectly. Then, I use a disposable paper bowl of the same size for her canned food, placing it into the cereal bowl. The food stays thawed out and doesn’t get too warm. As for the water, a deep water bowl is fine if kept filled up. We had a negative 12 degrees farenheit night here, and a number of nights under 5 degrees. No problems with the food or water !

I am loving this heated bowl. I have been searching for a nice heated birdbath seemingly forever, and decided to pivot and get one of these heated pet bowls instead. The cord is heavy duty, wonderfully weather resistant, and a nice long length. I measured and my cord is right at 7’. Since I am using this bowl for birds and small critters, I did place some medium sized rock in the bottom to give plenty of perching space for the birds. Even with the displacement of the rock, the bowl itself still holds a good amount of water. My only complaint would be the color, but I can change that easily enough when the weather warms up with a bit of paint.Definitely would purchase again.
