Love the design of this gauge. There is a funnel at the top that multiplies the rain coming into it so that the gauge can be read without even going outside. The float on the bottom rises up with the water level and it is easily viewed because it is a bright red color.

Quite a few years ago, a buddy of mine gave me one of these rain gauges, which is easy to read from my window even when placed pretty far away in an optimum open spot to record rainfall accurately. The only reason I got a new one is that hot and cold weather, along with stray leaves, dust, and the like that blew into my original one, eventually darkened the clear plastic, making it harder to see the water level inside, and finally, even though it was still usable, weather extremes eventually caused the plastic to become brittle to where it got a crack in the end at the bottom and the tube began leaking. I didn't hesitate for a second to get a new one just like the one my buddy gave me.

I first purchased this gauge quite a number of years ago. I liked the large size and that I could read it easily from inside my home--from a distance of 30 feet or so. I used it in the first location for 4 or 5 years, and then moved it to a second location for another period of at least 5 years or more. I'm not sure of the exact age of my original unit but I know I had it for at least 10 years. For the first few years I took it down during winter, but after I changed locations I left it out year-round. The only thing that changed over the years was the little orange float inside the gauge gradually faded from the original bright orange to a much lighter color. The gauge tube, holder and cup on top remained perfect, and the markings remained easily readable.In September 2023 we had a severe hail storm with some really large hail and high wind. The large green collection cup on top of the tube got knocked off by hail and the wind blew it completely away--couldn't find it anywhere. I immediately set out to find a duplicate rain gauge, and this one is identical to my first one in every respect. I don't know if this one will last another 10+ years, but if it does it may outlast me. This has been an excellent item and unusually durable; I can certainly recommend it.

Hey - this arrived quickly and was easy to set up. We had some vicious rain storms here and it easily shows how much rain has been falling. But, is it accurate -who knows. I have compared the reading to Boston but there could be a significant difference here 26 miles away. I like the look and the construction. In any case, it is an indicator of how much rain has fallen - if not perfect.

This is my second rain gauge. Same as my first one which lasted 5 yrs. I always take it inside in the winter so it wouldn’t crack. But the plastic on the first one finally deteriorated. I have no complaints & hopefully this one will last just as long. It’s easy to read from inside the house & it’s fun to see how much rain has fallen during all the storms we’ve been having. We really like this model. Easy to install on a wooden deck railing or a tree trunk & . Be sure to take the gauge inside in the winter & clean the inside as it can get mucky from the elements. We store it in the basement rafters. We enjoy weather instruments & have a few temperature gauges to keep track of the heat or cold, & a wind gauge mounted on a pole.Highly recommend this product.

I’ve had 3 of these before. They are great!the last one didn’t survive the snow moisture freezing over winter I looked this morning to see if it leaks but I couldn’t tell. Next time I will wait for it to rain first... lol.

This rain gauge plays an important part in our garden. Here is Texas, it can get hot and very dry, which necessitates watering our acre of flowers and shrubs. Knowing accurately how much rain we receive helps us to know the amount of watering we'll need to do in the near future.This product has very easy-to-read values on it. We can look out our bedroom window and easily see the rainfall amount from about 30 feet away. Installation is easy: you will need to provide a wooden stake (or an existing fence post) and two screws to install the holder. The rain gauge slips in and out of this holder easily, for quick emptying -- so you can get ready to record the next rainfall. The readings we get seem very accurate. I have given this item as gifts to friends as well, and they love it too.

Price at time of review: $16.13The weather nerd in me was getting frustrated that I didn't know how much rain we had gotten in each storm so I set out in search of a rain gauge. I settled on this one for it's large size and "Magnification" making the rain amounts easy to read.I mounted the gauge on the side of my raised garden bed at the back of my yard about 30 feet from my house. The gauge has a red floating disc and clear bold font. I can read the rain fall amount from any window on the north side of my house. I love that I can even see it from my bedroom on the second story.It comes with all the hardware to install the gauge mount. The gauge then slides down into the holder. After a rain fall, you just lift the gauge our of the holder and invert to empty/reset it for the next storm. The red disk does a good job of covering most of the water in the gauge so it won't evaporate before you get to check the amount of water.My only complaint would be that it's in inches only. I can do the conversion to mm in my head but in an updated version including cm would be welcome especially for us Canadians.

My only complaint is that it doesn't measure in 10ths of an inch. It's hard to get a decent read on it because of that. Maybe it's just because I'm living on a farm and we are in dire need of rain
