Exercise

Recent research has shown that a lack of exercise is a primary factor in the development of diseases, especially atherosclerosis. This appears to be a condition that is present in all captive parrots to some degree and worsens with age.

There are a few ways a family can ensure that a pet bird has access to exercise:

• Free-flying would be the ultimate exercise, but there are potential associated risks, such as escape or encountering household dangers

• Housing in a large enough enclosure to allow free flight

• Placing a harness or leash on the bird and have it tethered to an outdoor line under constant observation

• Placing a ladder inside the enclosure to encourage movement

• Providing safe environmental enrichment activities

• Offering daily time for the bird to move around outside the enclosure with.supervision

Sunlight

Access to sunlight is essential for activation of vitamin D and utilization of calcium in the body. For example, African grey parrots, whose natural living conditions are high in the jungle canopy, require an abundance of sunlight in captivity to activate dietary calcium.

There are several ways access to sunlight can be accomplished for pet birds:

• One may expose the bird in its cage or other safe enclosure to outdoor fresh air and direct sunlight for short periods of time. There should be shade available for the bird to retreat.

• Putting a cage in front of a sunny window does not accomplish the same thing. The glass itself prevents transfer of the proper rays.

• In areas or seasons where there is little direct sun, recommended lamps with sufficient UVA and UVB lights may be used to simulate sun rays.

No dyes so no colored poops. Healthy food and my cockatiel prefers the fine pellets as the larger ones are harder for him to eat. Have been feeding him Harrisons for years- moved to a remote area and tried a different brand but he hated it and the quality was definitely not the same. Harrisons is great and it does not cause excessive energy and pent up aggression like seeds can. Wow- burbs.

These pellets are too large for my parakeet. She just won't eat them. I believe it is because she can't eat them. I say this because I have tried the superfine and she eats them with no problem.

Overall, this is a very good product to feed your birds. This is the only thing I feed my Conures and they're thriving. It was suggested to me by my vet and ever since I've switched I have never went back to seeds. For the longevity of your birds definitely switch. They have a lot of great products as well

My bird just loves this food. He sings loudly when we feed him very good food and a reusable bag makes it last for a long time.

Two months ago my husband and I purchased a four month old pineapple green cheek conure. Well we fell absolutely head over heels in love with the little guy about 15 min after getting him home. We joke that it's the easiest 30 year commitment we've made. However, a month or so after getting him home we learned their lifespans can be drastically impacted by their diet (just like ours) and that the seed/pellet mix that had been recommend to us by the pet shop was inadvertently placing our beloved budgie on the fast track to fatty liver disease AND a premature death. We did some research and stumbled across Harrison's. Tzatziki Zeke is now six months old and I wish I could go back and record the changes that have occurred in the short month we've been feeding him Harrison's. I had seen others mention the vibrancy in their birds plumage dramatically increasing in their reviews, and I can attest to that. When we purchased him we were told he was a "fallow" pineapple (which they attributed his muddy appearance to). In the past month he has completely lost the brown tinge. His eyes (which were discernibly brown when we first got him) have changed to a GORGEOUS rose gold color, along with most of his head. The greens, yellow, lavender, aqua, cerulean blue and copper colors that constitute the rest of his plumage are so vibrant that he nearly glows. He is absolutely stunning in the sunlight and on an unrelated note, smells like a delightful little biscuit so lavishing him with kisses is hardly a chore. We were worried the switch would be difficult for him but we spent an evening using the pellets as treats during a short training session. The next morning when he saw that his bowl was filled with the pellets (as opposed to his seeds) he was absolutely delighted. He literally face planted into the bowl and squealed with delight between each mouthful. The fine pellets seem to be a perfect size for him (seeing that he's a smaller conure) and it's not uncommon to see him standing with a handful on his comfy perch, happily munching away. I'll be a customer for life. It's such a relief to know that not only is the food your providing going to prolong your bird's life, but that they also enjoy it.

I've fed my two Indian Ringnecks on Harrison's pellets since they were babies. The shiny condition of their plumage and overall health couldn't be more noticeable 3 years on. I can easily tell what a big difference a balanced healthy diet has made in their state.(1) Product is organic. No chemicals or preservatives.(2) Contrary to the common belief that pellets taste dull, at least my parrots do not feel that way. They love the taste, so much so that if you mix something else with the pellets, they may not like it as much.(3) This can be served in a variety of ways; In dry form (most common) or if you try to get your bird acclimated to this food or want to spoil them you can mix it with water. Within 5 minutes you have a uniform wet mix just as if you would if you mix a powder version with water, warm it up and you can hand-feed them that way. You can also spray some water on the dry pellets and sometimes my parrots like it that way. The last but not least, you can mix the pellets with water in a cup, but don't let it sit more than 1 minute. Then warm it up and now the mix becomes crunchy which stays that way even during subsequent warming and storage in fridge. My parrots sometimes love the crunchiness of the mix.(4) This formula still allows you to feed additional fruits, vegetables and seeds so as to provide variety. No matter how complete a pellet may be, all living animals appreciate variety. So 70% of my parrots diet comes from Harrison's and the rest come from variety of seeds, fruits and nuts. So, if you don't have time or can't prepare other food for your parrot regularly, you will have peace of mind that they are getting all their required nutrition and at the same time, you can give them other healthy food as well.(5) Excellent bag that seals perfectly and protects the pellets for long-term freshness and storage in the fridge.(6) AffordableBIG THANKS TO HARRISON'S!
