I have been using these ETA hand2mind Elapsed Time Rods to work on helping my four year old understand the concept of time. He is always trying to read the clock and getting a bit confused as to the amount of time each hour that has elapsed. This had really helped him to have a visual understanding of how 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes fits into 1 hour. While we still have a long ways to go this is also helping him to understand fractions in a very abstract way for the future.The set includes 74 rods and 6 workmats. The rods are color coded - which really helps to break it down in an easy to understand way.These are pretty durable as both of my children have played with them beyond the learning time I had set aside and just free played - nothing has broken yet!I wish I had these when I was learning when I was younger because these are pretty amazing as a learning resource for children who are visual and hands on learners.

This is a nice teaching tool for learning how time works. The is probably a kindergarten age item that would work well in classrooms or at home. The pieces are sized proportionally so four 15-min pieces equal the length of a 1-hour piece. They snap together well and are colored differently based on the unit of time. This is very hands-on way to learn time.

I was unsure about these but have decided that they are very cool. Time is a weird concept for kids, so I thought this would be a help for my 5-year-old to get how time works. I like the breakdown of the colors to help set time apart, and that they can match things up to see how time is broke down into increments. I've found this to be very helpful and takes some of the frustration out of trying to teach this.

Elapsed time rods are merely the next way to put math concepts into a concrete form that are so much better than a clock, for some students. I am very impressed by how this lays out units of time in an easy-to-read linear form my students can easily compare. They are of solid, durable plastic with clear printing and a host of differing ways to arrange the time. Very handy for my time unit.

My nephew is autistic and time is not a concept he grasps easily even though he is 13, so these are great for him! They are marked with not only the minutes but the fractions as well and it's terrific to have a visual aid to teach with. Not only that but they even helped my niece who is 11, and has trouble remembering things, to learn not only time but her fractions better. They had great fun just playing with these for about an hour! They are a great tool!

These are wonderful teaching tools for students, helping them to view time as tangible for learning. The pieces are easy to manipulate together and to take apart. The fold out timelines are helpful as well. The booklet offers ways to use the learning tools for time, fractions, relationships between time intervals, rounding out time to the nearest hours, etc. Great for classroom learning or at home.As a mother, I know first hand from my older teenager that used these tools really helped set up a successful math experience in school. Since my older son learned from these types of math time rods, he completely grasps algebra and geometry with absolutely no issues, so I wanted these for my younger son just starting his schooling. Wish I would have had things like these elapsed time rods when I was young so I would grasp more math concepts. Highly recommend.

Love using these as a teaching aid for my kids! They work (at least conceptually) just like the we use for teaching math (ones, tens, hundreds, etc.). They are made of colorful plastic, though. An advantage is that they can interconnect and click together--a bit like legos. It also comes with 6 laminated workmats, which is a nice addition, though I would have preferred if the workmats weren't so long and unwieldy. For the price, however, it seems like it's a bit overpriced for some plastic bits. However, if you're a teacher starting out, the investment will pay for itself over many years. These are durable and hardy teaching tools.
