The one I received is not like the one pictured in the description and that disappointed me. (See photo)The one shown in the description I have used for years and I liked how they filled and I knew how they would react. The one I received is ok, however, the coil is mounted with more of the coil on one side than the other and I can’t pick up as many pecans as I could with the one shown. I’m not going to send it back. It works well enough and probably quite well for someone who has never used one of these. I would like for sellers to let customers know when they are substituting. I feel that this is false advertising shows lack of integrity. (Having difficultly getting photo to download.)

This thing is great. It looks kind of like they took a heavy duty Slinky that had thick round coils (instead of flat ones), curved it into the shape of a big "C", and put a handle on it. To use it, just position the bottom part of the "C" so the metal coils are parallel with the pecan, and push down. The coils spread out, and the nut goes up in between them. Even if the nuts are partially obscured by grass and leaves, it still picks them up. Moreover, as an unexpected bonus: if the hull / "outer wrapper" of the pecan has not totally come off already, the picker upper will often shuck those parts off, in the process of capturing the nut! It does a fantastic job of picking up pecans of all sizes (my two trees produce shorter fat pecans and longer thinner ones; it gets both types with no trouble at all). It can pick up at least 2-3 dozen pecans before having to be emptied. When it does start to get full, just turn it sideways over the bucket or other container you are using, and the nuts will dump right out into it. The only regret I have is that I should have bought this tool at the very start of the pecan season, instead of the tail end of it. (I didn't know if the 75 year old trees in the back yard of the house we bought would still produce nuts or not; 55 pounds later I figured out that they did, and belatedly ordered this picker upper!)

I purchased this pecan picker for a friend to help her deal with the walnuts from a tree that this year produced 99 gallons of unshelled nuts. When I learned she had picked up off the ground every one of them by hand, I knew I had to get her this picker that can pick up about a quart of nuts between empties, all while standing erect. I great back saver as I learned after purchasing my own from a farm store in Georgetown, Texas. I got it for picking up pecans, the trees in the public parks having produced a bumper crop.It works really well with both walnuts and pecans and I don't doubt it would work equally well for hazelnuts. Haven't tried it on any others, but urge you to try one if you have nuts to pick off the ground.

I bought this astonishing gadget for my brother who has a couple of pecan trees in his yard and hundreds of pecans and leaves on the ground (which means you must lean or squat down to move leaves around to find the elusive little buggers). At a Thanksgiving visit I spent over an hour compulsively picking up pecans. For the next two or three days I remembered that activity in my back and legs. I needed a better nut cracker in order to partake of my bounty and went looking on my favorite web site. On the way I found this pecan gatherer and realized it was a perfect gift. He loves it. He says it makes short and easy work of picking up these delicacies. I love it when something works as advertised.
