Beware of Amazon's listings, I typed ring file but this is a hand file.Although a great hand file it will not work for my intended purpose.Jewelers will know the difference.

Great file, very fine teeth, but smooth and quick removal of material, even on carbon steel. Half round files are great to have around, this one is fantastic.

I almost never write reviews. so if I'm writing this, you know I was really impressed. I'm doing lots of filing "soft" metal, 6061 T6 sheet aluminum, working usually .025" to .048" thick and aluminum extrusions for my project; cleaning up edges, enlarging holes, making slots, et cetera. I generally didn't feel the need to spend a lot of money on a file, and was reluctant to buy this, at approx. $27, but I needed a half-round that cut clean and the tapered profile was a bonus. All I can say is wow... I mean, WOW! This is such a HUGE step up in quality and how it cuts... it's in a totally different class than the stuff you find at your average home improvement or hardware store (way above)! Absolutely worth every penny and more.

Even when a Grobet file is worn, it still better than 90% of what’s available. You buy these for life and to enjoy what you’re doing. This file is beautifully made and hard enough to handle hardened stainless steel knife edges. It tapers down wonderfully narrow and is perfectly flat. The tangs are not overly large and fit in wooden handles. These are made in Switzerland but I’ve use Grobet files from Italy that are just as good. Just buy one of these If you file metal. For as fine as it cuts, it removes metal quickly. Pair it with a good wooden handle to pass down to kids.

This is a great little file, it's fine enough that it doesn't leave late scratch marks, but it still removes material reasonably fast.

Although this file costs somewhat more than a big-box-store file, this cuts into the metal; it does not just skate over the it.
