The problem with a lot of grill grates that come with BBQ grills is that they take the approach of porcelain coating not-so-heavy gauge metal. Sooner or later, the porcelain wears off allowing the grate to rust away. These are uncoated, but much heavier metal. That means that they also retain heat better. And there is a feature that I didn't realize at first. The half-moon cutaways in the front make it easy to slip in a butane lighter to get things starting. Built-in grill igniters seldom last very long. These were a perfect fit for my Nexgrill (HomeDepot brand) BBQ grill.

I had another set of cast iron surfaces with one side a grill plate & the other a two-sided flat plate for grilling vegetables/fish/eggs/pancakes, etc. for my inherited 4-burner Nextgrill. I found that I rarely used the plate side as it left unsatisfying results when cooking overflow chicken/burgers/steaks, even though one side had half the flat area with ridges..I wanted to buy just a single grill plate so that I could cook a lot of meat without crowding the grill or using the flat surface and be able to swap them in and out depending upon my grilling needs. Unfortunately, I had to buy the whole set. I now have the old set in the new pair's shipping box stored under the grill and exchange them as needed.There is nothing that sears like cast iron and, though it doesn't clean as easily as metal coated or stainless steel, the cooking results are far superior and I don't use nearly the propane to do the job right. These are well-made and economical...I just wish that I could have bought just one - thus my rating.
