Switching to using BMPCC cameras, this tool allows me to instantly check the White Balances of various environments.

Although cameras have come a long way with auto white balance, there are times when I'm color correcting and see that the white balance is off a bit, and having a reference card would be helpful. This reference card is double-sided with gray and white, and I find this helpful in some of my photo workflows, where it helps set the baseline for my initial adjustments, along with setting my camera white balance.Overall, I like this tool as it's large enough for different uses but also rugged enough to where I can toss it around. One thing I didn't know, though, is this isn't collapsable. I thought it could collapse down to a smaller size since it's similar to a popup reflector, but unfortunately, it doesn't. Even though it's not collapsable, it comes with a decent bag/protector sleeve and is slim and small enough to fit in my laptop case. It's a great tool to ensure your color accuracy is on point.

I’m a photo enthusiast and still have lots to learn so I might get things wrong but one thing I’ve learned is that a grey card is still an important piece of kit for photographers that shoot static objects like portraits or product photography. I shoot in raw format and after I do a shoot I’m always looking for something in the shot that will give me a neutral colour so that I can fix the white balance selected by my camera (it’s always off). This grey card is perfect for that. I place it in the shot at the beginning, take a test shot (with or without the subject) and then later on I can set the white balance in editing and apply it to all the other photos (so long as the light and location did not change). It’s big enough that it gets a clear reading from the shot either laying it down or having the subject hold it. It’s also light and thin so I just stick it in the laptop slot in my camera bag, or sometimes in the carry pouch for my reflector. It reminds me of a little reflector except it doesn't twist and fold smaller. While using this card I also discovered that the small grey card I had bought previously and stopped using was not actually 18% grey. This one is darker but comparing it to online images it appears that this one is correct and my old one was way too light.

I never calibrated my white balance before but that was something I’ve been wanting to try for a long time, i did notice an improvement afterwards although this isn’t anything mind blowing but overall it’s nice to have and fits in my backpack so i can bring it anywhere i want!

Not a complex but of kit. It lets you white balance and seems to work well.
