Suction Strainers
The suction strainer is used on the suction end of a suction hose to help prevent debris from being sucked into your pump. It is a critical component as it can help prevent your suction pump from being damaged or clogged.
The suction strainer has a female NPSH thread and will connect to a male NPT, NPS or NPSH nipple on your suction hose.
NPSH stands for National Pipe Straight Hose and is sometimes called NPS (National Pipe Straight). NPT stands for National Pipe Tapered.
These suction strainers are compatible with all National Pipe standards: NPT or NPSH or NPS.
Strainer Connection
Gloxco Suction strainers are meant to be attached to the submersed end of a suction hose and is used to keep debris from entering your suction hose and pump.

These worked just fine as part of a pickup tube without a foot valve in my 55 gallon drums.They are definitely bright zinc plated so be careful in any application where zinc might react. However the pictures are misleading. They are not tapered into a cone. They are cylindrical. In my case I covered them with chemical resistant shrink tubing to shorten the holes exposed closer to the drum bottom. I also wrapped them in 25 micron filter fabric such that any junk looking to go through the pickup tube is rejected into the drum where it already was, so it does not get into my expensive pump.
