Unlike other reviewers, I thought the assembly instructions were very good: They are simple and easy to follow. However, as another reviewer mentioned, if you try to do the assembly with only the supplied hex wrench, you're in for a long day and sore fingers. With my impact driver, I had it completed in under 30 minutes.I found only one flaw: The two small screws that attach the steps to the round dowel are not long enough to get a good bite (and thereby prevent side-to-side movement of the steps); I subbed a couple of #6 X 1" drywall screws, and those worked fine.Final notes: The first one of these I bought arrived with a split step; the wood had just given out. But the replacement was easy and free, and the second package had all good parts.I admit that my 5-star rating is partly swayed by price: i.e., when I started looking for a stool like this, I found most were more than $200. Given the price of this one, it's a 5-star piece of furniture.

This stool looks great and is sturdy....but...in order to get the screws in, we needed to use an impact drill with a bit and almost stripped one completely trying to get it more than 1/3 of the way through. Cannot be assembled with included Allen key.

This is not for mobility challenged folk. It requires some balance and sure footedness, as the bottom two steps are narrow and the top step is high without rails. It is not as rock-solid stable as a commercial grade aluminum folding step ladder obviously. But it is stable enough and I LOVE it!!!It is PLENTY stable for me (age 61, female, active and fit, can balance on one leg with ease), and reaches all my highest shelves with ease. How did I live without this thing??!!This reaches far higher than a char would allow me, and upon the highest step I can reach my highest kitchen shelves. It looks fantastic sitting out and blends with my maple-ginger cabinets perfectly in the color called "coffee" (which is NOT a typical "coffee" color but more like a caramel wood tone). You are best served with a drill and small pilot hole bit to put it together properly as the holes might be off. You don't want to just use self-drilling screws as it might crack the wood. Best to check each hole before screws with a bit. But seriously this thing is SO FABULOUS that it is worth that extra hassle of some QC. issues in the hole drilling. If you need to, find a handy-person to put it together for you, it is so worth it!! It is a beautiful and very functional step ladder.Note: when adjusting position (moving the step ladder to reach another high place, even if adjacent) it is easier to fold in the steps, move it , and fold out the steps, over trying to move it with the steps extended outward. Steps in, to move it easily.I now have a gorgeous step ladder that is ALWAYS at the ready. My kids steal it for other rooms all the time, they love it too. It looks fantastic sitting out and can serve as a small near-counter-height platform to hold something when you need it. The steps fold in and out with ease. I use this thing a few to many many times a day, at holiday time over dozens of times a day, and my kitchen is FAR more functional since I can use all the shelves for greater organization. If you are surefooted, I highly recommend this step ladder!! If you are not stable on your feet, look to an aluminum stable folding ladder instead.

Ordered this stool because we have really tall kitchen cabinets. We opted for a more solid wood stool because we thought it would look better aesthetically than a plastic/metal one.Reason for 4 stars: it looks really solid, it’s pretty, it’s a good size, it definitely seems stable and comfortable to both sit and stand on. Additionally, it’s nice that the two bottom stairs fold inwards. The weight is also not unreasonably heavy given that it’s 3 solid wood steps. And love that it’s both a stool to sit on and stand.Reason for deducting 1 star: it was INCREDIBLY difficult to put together. As soon as we started putting together the first few supplied screws into the pre drilled holes, after only a few quick twists, the screws made these horrible squeaking sounds as if the hole was way too small. We did put this together by hand. We had to use both of our strength together to turn the screws into place. We even added towels to soften the grip because it was so painful to twist. We also got confused with the directions near the end because before placing the final side piece on, you need to make sure the bottom two steps are folded so the top is OUTSIDE the frame, rather than inside, or else - as we discovered - the bottom two steps can’t completely rotate from inside/under the top step to the fully extended position. We had to undo the final piece and fix that. All this said, again, we did do this manually and it sounds like people who used drills did not have as many painful experiences. For context, we put together a much more complicated extendable office desk and it took half the time that this took.Still excited to use this now that it’s completely assembled. It was really hard to put together, so it should be really hard to break (if anything!).

Solid wood. I had to hire someone as the alan key would not suffice the short holes. I needed someone with experience to further drill the hole openings and then secure the screws. The final product is quite nice. It is just so hard to order items that require so much work. The final product, now assembled, is lovely.

Although the parts of this step stool appear well made, the rod for the lower step and the 2nd Rail indicated in the promotional material were not included.Although screws were sufficient to assemble, the Allen Key supplied was not appropriate for the assembly, fortunately, I had a set of Allen Keys and was able to assemble. The accompanying Instruction Manual is INCOMPLETE and does not make assembly easy for non engineers1

Assembling wasn't very hard. Didn't predrill, just puncture with an awl. A couple of holes were probably drilled during manufacturing and were not required (caused confusion for some buyers). Quite steady and a very nice wood. Recommend.

This is a really handsome piece of furniture once it's all together, but it took a bit more work than anticipated because the first step was to attach the L brackets to the treads and the treads to the risers, and neither of them were pre-drilled. I didn't think much about it, because how much work should 16 wood screws be, right? (The packing list said 18, but the instructions only showed using 16 - 8/tread X 2 treads + 16 - so yeah, that was obviously a typo)Well! Let me just say, who would have thought that rubberwood would be so hard?? I thought, ok, just start a decent pilot hole and go from there. The wood is really hard and even with self-tapping screws it wouldn't bite... and then, it was like the further in the screws went the more the wood just held tight to them... many squeaks later...The Husband ended up using the power drill to seat them properly, which is not a big deal, but the other thing was that I didn't want to have the treads off-centre, so I did have to move one of them after starting it which was a bit of a pita. However, from that point forward the construction was a breeze and I am confident that this stool is never going to wobble. The finish is easily marred though; the dowel that allows the steps to swing under the stool is really tight - as it should be so it won't shift side to side in use - and scraped into the finish trying to set it properly. Again not really a problem because I intend to add some minor embellishments so it'll coordinate with my kitchen hutch.Anyhow, if the company could pre-drill those holes it would make it just that much more pleasant an experience both for the arm-strong factor as well as the finicking about needed to make sure the treads are aligned properly and attached adequately.... but still 5 stars because the end result is still worth it.

It is a little difficult to assemble if you aren't paying super attention to the diagrams. It is clear there is a front and a back with three slots for the back stabilizer boards. For the people who accidentally assembled this where the steps can't fold in I feel bad. My advice: be careful not to screw your bolts in at an angle and the reassemble is doable. I have horrible arthritis in my hands and I found it easy to tighten the bolts after perfecting alignment. Not easy to do as all the parts have to be slightly connected. I'm lucky I got it all the first attempt but I expected problems from the reviews so I left full tightening of bolts until the very end. One of the plugs gave me trouble and seemed to be a bit unfinished but a slight tap with a soft mallet clicked everything into place perfectly. Love this stool! My husband is a very large man and I'm happy it supports him without a wobble...bonus it's so preeeeettttty.
