This is a gorgeous real leather portfolio. As a human with experience working with different grades of leather for crafts and upholstery and as someone on a personal crusade against "vegan leather", I can attest that this is 100% actual real leather. There are distinct variations in the grain that are too unique to be affordably produced in vegan leather. It smells like leather, scratches like leather feels like leather. Bending the flaps bag gives that lovely, buttery feel that no polyurethane can ever duplicate. The ultimate proof though is in the flaps and pockets. The seams on the the rear of the pockets aren't rolled over as they are where the seams are visible. Since they're just folded over and glued down, you can easily and gently pry up the edge and verify that yes, this is not a plastic landfill fodder that will never biodegrade, but a well made leather good that's built to last.It does not zip shut. The clipboard is sturdy and strong, providing ample grip to hold a legal notepad. The zipper for the interior pocket runs smoothly, and the metal finish on the zipper pull and the clipboard are gorgeous.Inside on the writing side, there's very little padding. The exterior of the portfolio has some nice soft padding though that makes it feel very nice to the touch.Though it can scratch, the finish on the leather is like that of a quality leather sofa. It's easy to repair any imperfections.I absolutely love this portfolio. I'd prefer a zipper and I'm going to modify it a little bit when time permits to add some binder rings to increase its functionality. But it's exactly as described, and of wonderful quality. I'm happy with it.

Am sad to be returning this beautiful portfolio. Unfortunately, the finish shows fingerprints and other marks. Also, the clip will hold ONLY a 16 lb., 50-sheet pad. Anything thicker will not fit under the clip.
