I am a trim Carpenter and this is essential for my job to scribe straight lines on boards to be ripped it is small and can easily be fit in any of my pouches you don't need these other fancy large ones or more expensive ones that do the same thing I think it's a great product and the prices incredible

Everything about this compass seems to be good quality aside from the design. The threaded adjustment screw isn't centered like on other styles, but Sticks out on only one side. That wouldn't be a big deal if not for the way it causes the legs to get into a bind and basically require you to manually squeeze it shut to take tension off adjustment screw before it will work properly. Still works, just aggravating.

Oh, it's such a nifty little compass! Brass, heavy, nicely made. East to turn top. And, a good price! I'm looking forward to having the use of it.

This little compass is a gem! It's surprisingly sturdy for its size and the pencil it comes with is sharp and holds well. Perfect for those intricate drawings and drafting projects.

These are the perfect ones to get for a classroom. The pencil can be swapped easily for easy sharpening. Adequate size. Super durable. Solid, heavy, construction

Don't buy this project. This product is so flimsy and when you try to draw a circle, you end up with an out of balance ellipse. The spring part which is supposed to be stiff, just wabbles. Don't buy this product. I am returning it! And one more thing, don't by this product!

Very sturdy construction quality, and works well. However I have two complaints:The ring that holds the pencil in place is narrower than I expected, so it won't fit the pens or mechanical pencils I have (which have thicker comfort grips). Stick pens may fit, but not too thin, or else the ring can't tighten enough. Also because the pieces are cast, they don't bend; so there isn't a good way to work around this issue. If you happen to have pens that fit, that's great. If your pens don't fit, you'll have to find a work-around (eg: tape). The claim 'jaw capacity of up to 9"' is misleading: the compass can draw a 9 inch DIAMETER circle. The compass doesn't open wider than about 4.5 inches.

The finish on these isn't great. For example, the surface of the arms is kind of rough in spots and like everything General Tools makes, it came coated in fairly smelly grease to protect it from rust in storage/transit. But it works great – better than the Staedtler compass I bought (and returned) for about 4x the price. The adjustment is fairly smooth, the arms stay put, you can sharpen the pencil easily, swap it for an x-acto knife, etc. For the price, they are excellent. Plus I just like the style of these.

Extremely well made compass, very rigid and adjusts easily even for small changes. It is very easy to use even for children. Drafting pencil fits in well and held tightly while scribing arcs. Very happy with the purchase. The shipping was very fast and the compass was in its packaging well protected in a bubble type envelope.Thank you, seller!

Great scribe, really does the job. I got a heavy duty Groz compass that would be great for making circles but it aint to good when you need to scribe a line to fit something together. This is lighter duty but the geometry is just right and seeing as it's not a hammer I don't know how heavy duty it needed to be. It's pot metal painted brass, they lost a star for that just because it seemed a little misleading. I would have happily given it five stars if it were painted or powdercoated some other color. I do have to also not that the little hook that holds the pencil is pretty easily lost so be careful when swapping or adjusting the pen/pencil you're using.

Professional compass for Carpenters and joiners. No plastic parts, all components brass or steel. Steel point centre has protective rubber cap for safe storage, very nice. Fine adjustable arm almost micrometer accurate. Parallel pencil to centre for perfect scribing of worktops to uneven surfaces. Accurate for circles and division of distances using tool as divider. Delicate tool, I think It's robust enough. General tools, please manufacture a bigger one.
