We had the original version of this microwave for 10+ years and only replaced it because the ceiling was peeling. The newer version is a piece of garbage especially given the high price. In just over 18 months we have had to have it fixed FOUR TIMES because it will stop working. If you are going to buy this (I wouldn't recommend it) definitely get the extended warranty.

My siblings and I purchased this microwave for our parents for Christmas. It arrived in a timely fashion with no damage or other issues. It is replacing one my folks have used since 1985, which was still working, just not great. Pretty sure this new one won't last anywhere near that long based on reviews, but hoping it will suffice for as long as my parents need it.It fits perfectly in the spot, and, like others have said, it's almost doubled the price of others because GE is apparently the only one who makes one this size which kinda stinks, but if it's what you need, it's what you need need. Also, as someone else mentioned, you cannot install it flush with the cabinets or the door will not open properly…

Our new kitchen cupboards provided only enough space for a 12” deep microwave. I did a lot of research and this GE Profile model was the only one that fit. I was disappointed that there weren’t more options especially after I read some of the reviews. I felt skeptical I would be happy or even satisfied with this choice but there were no other options so I ordered it. I was wrong! I have no complaints whatsoever, and in fact, this slim microwave has completely outperformed my best expectations. I am so impressed with the job it does. It cooks potatoes perfectly every time! Not only does it function well, and runs quietly, it looks fantastic too! I should mention it arrived quickly and was packaged securely so it came out of the box in perfect condition. Personally, I have no idea what the critics were talking about, because I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

The vendor shipped promptly. Price was excellent. The microwave was double packed, so it arrived in perfect condition. This unit replaced another GE just like it that finally died after 10 years of heavy usage. The microwave is an under-cabinet installation and the original hardware didn't work with the new unit....backing plates and enclosure cabinet securing bolt holes were in new locations and unalike. I did not buy the installation package, so I had to improvise, as did another reviewer. I simply used the rigid cardboard box it arrived in to cut a template the exact size of the top of the unit (with the hole positions marked), I placed it under the cabinet and drilled new holes through the template with a 1/8" pilot bit from the bottom up. Then I enlarged those holes to 3/8" from the top down to provide adjustment room. The original bolts were the correct size, so my son held the unit in place while I set the bolts using 2" fender washers. Worked like a charm and cost me $1.40 at TrueValue for the washers. The microwave is obviously one that I endorse, as it was a replacement....and I have the same model at our beach home and mountain cottage, plus this new one at our primary residence. I highly recommend this particular GE microwave. It is reliable, user friendly, compact, quite attractive and has all necessary functions for non-serious cooking where a larger, more powerful convection type microwave with temp probe might be a better choice. You will not be disappointed.

This review has 2 parts : 1st addresses the appliance as a microwave, 2d as a replacement for the old, SpaceMaker. As a microwave, it is acceptable, but not remarkable. As 800W, it is relatively low power, meaning things take a little longer to heat up. The design s attractive, but that's a matter of taste. It is fairly lightweight, which is nice when you're wrangling it, but does lend an impression of insubstantiality. The door mechanism feels poorly built, as the machine does overall, and I am leery of its long term prospects - in a word, it feels cheap. It is clearly overpriced as a microwave, but I was stuck needing this exact size, so I'm glad it exists. As a microwave, it deserves 2 stars. My 14 year old GE SpaceMaker II was becoming ever less reliable, needing to be unplugged and re-plugged to work properly, several times a day, so I looked to replace like with like. As the old one was installed as a part of a kitchen remodel, hanging under a cabinet with a piece of trim at the base, I was severely constrained in my selection. I had read many reviews as well as the exact specs, and it seemed that GE advertises this model as the replacement for the now discontinued SpaceMaker series. Unfortunately, this one is slightly taller (~1/2") in the body (the old one's height included legs which are absent here, so the nominal heights are the same, but they are effectively different). Also, the depth of the new one is effectively greater, as the hinge is on the outside corner, where as the old one was able to turn inside it's own dimension, so that this model has to be moved forward about 3/4" in order for the door edge to clear the cabinet wall when opening. If you're planning on hanging it, as I did, beware. While the hardware kit for this purpose has the same number as the one from 14 years ago, you will not be able to use those old holes, as the screw holes in the body are in different places. I had to trim a part of one bracket, as well as locate and drill new holes, which was a minor aggravation. Between that and the dimensional changes, there was a fair amount fo rejiggerring needed to make this work in the space available. Finally, the old one was 1100W, to this one's 800W, so the reduction in power is noticeable.Overall, I gave it 4 stars for solving my problem of fitting the constrained space. But as a stand alone microwave, I would not recommend it. As a replacement, be prepared that it might not be a cake walk to install.
