Garrett at Series 5' x 8' DD PROformance Elliptical DD Search Coil with Cover

Great little coil, light weight and easy to get in tight places

Excellent addition to my AT Max!Added this to my setup for those trashy or “high target” areas like parks/playgrounds etc. as my stock 8x11 DD was a little too big to isolate specific targets.Much lighter than the stock coil and outstanding performance! Although I forgot how small it really was before ordering (have an Ace 250 with a 5x8 concentric) but absolutely necessary to have around those areas!

This coil is very easy to install and works miracles in tight places and is extremely useful isolating valuable targets in a field tightly packed junk metal. Best coil I've ever owned.

I'm very happy with the smaller coil. Soon after this purchase I also purchased wireless headphones. The two changes together make the ATPro so much lighter and easier to use.

I received my new coil today and put it on my AT Pro and took it outside. Works like a charm and is nice and lite. While Garrett makes great detectors I still have to wonder at their thinking behind the plug they used to plug the coil into the AT detectors. Not user friendly at all for my old eyes. I placed a quarter in an 8" hole and it found it no problem. I'm a happy camper. I took it to one of my favorites spots the other day. It was finding spent .22 cases over 8" deep. I know this is not what I was looking for but still pretty impressive. I do like this coil...

Hard to rate something I haven't used yet. But I can tell you that the larger coil that came with my machine worked flawlessly. The first time on the beach with the larger coil I found a clad quarter in the first 5 mins. using it that was 8" in the sand. BTW I am a NEWBIE. This was my first hunt on a beach. I also found a safety pin that was 5" in the sand. I am hoping that the smaller one will help narrow the dig site.

The Garrett 5” x 8” DD PROformance search coil is a great coil to have for your Garrett AT Pro, AT Gold, or AT Max metal detector. While this coil is the stock coil for the AT Gold detector, it is a compliment to the 8.5” x 11” stock coil on the AT Pro and AT Max detectors.Garrett has been making metal detectors for over half a century right here in the U.S.A. and they continue to improve on their models with each new generation of products. I bought this coil because it made sense to me to buy a coil that was engineered and designed specifically for the AT series of metal detectors made by the same manufacturer.I used this coil in the same area that I had previously searched with a larger coil and I was able to recover more valuable targets that were missed with the larger coil. The reason for this is the area that I was searching had a lot of trash that was masking good targets when using my larger coil. I like to say that the smaller coil is able to zoom in on a smaller area and it detects less in its field of detection, much like someone using a pair of binoculars when they zoom in on an image.The following is a list of pros and cons based on my experience with the 5” x 8” DD PROformance search coil.Pros:Lightweight – Compared to the stock 8.5” x 11” search coil on the AT Pro and the AT Max this coil will make an already lightweight machine even lighter and you will be able to detect for long periods of time without much fatigue.Ability to search near objects – The smaller search coil will allow you to get closer to objects, such as trees, fences, etc.Great for trash areas – When searching in areas with a high amount of trash metal, such as iron, foil, and pull tabs, this smaller search coil will improve your chances of recovering good targets due to the smaller footprint.Waterproof – There is no need to worry about detecting in the water with this coil. While most coils are waterproof these days, I feel it is still worth the mentionCons:Search time – You can expect to increase your search time to cover the same amount of ground compared to a larger search coil.Less depth – The physics come into play as the smaller the coil, the smaller the signal or detection field, which translates into less depth you will get from the coil.There are a lot of videos of detectorists performing real world application and reviews of this search coil. A quick search on the Internet will provide you with some additional good, honest reviews of this product.I thought about giving this coil a 4 star rating as I have found that the coil cover is not as snug near the center of the coil as I would prefer, but the coil cover has no effect on the coil performance and in fact the coil can be used without the cover. I use mine with the cover and it is tight all around the outside edges where it matters the most and I am rating this coil with 5 stars for the other reasons I have stated.To conclude, I have used this coil and I have been pleased with the overall capabilities it has provided for me in the field. I was also using this coil when I recovered a lost gold wedding band set. I recommend it to anyone who would like to have a great addition to their detecting arsenal as it is quite capable of proving its worth during a good day of detecting.

The coil is ok, nothing special. The dust cover doesn't fit very well.
