We have red clay, concrete soil. This spade digs right in, and I love that there are "wings" to place your feet to put your body weight into it. This tool is life changing!

Have some real rocky soil that shovels have a hard time getting through and this cuts right through no problem. Does a great job where other shovels fail. Makes like so much easier.

Very well made ... should last forever. Much better than regular shovel when you have hard packed clay soil. Just wish it was about an inch or two wider.

I treated myself to the shovel. My fenced in garden was 40 x 30. I had a blend of vegetables and perennials. Also, some manuals. I’m a big gardener. This is the best thing I ever bought myself. There’s nothing that can compare to having a sharp shovel. I’m a tall woman so I got the long handle. I tell all my friends about the shovel. It’s worth every dollar. Also if you get older, it’s great to help yourself off the ground with.

This is the best present you can give to yourself if you have a garden, or as a gift for a wedding or a house warming. It handles clay, rocky soil, and sandy loam with equal efficiency (though not at the same speed....if you have clay soil, you know what I mean). I have given this shovel as gifts more than 10 times! Everyone loves it! Men like the long handle best. Spear Head is especially good for women, because it will hold a smaller amount of soil.....and we enjoy that! (easier on the back). I own this shovel in all three sizes. All of them are worthwhile to have. Seriously, they are the best. You should consider the investment in all three sizes!

This spade is easy to use with less effort than the conventional spade. In sod to remove dandelions it works great. Just remove a plug of sod with the dandelion root, split the plug and remove the complete root and plant. Replace the plug. Planting bulbs is a breeze. Works in all types of soil. The nine inch blade is quality steel. It actually resonates a 🎶hummmmmm🎶 when struck with a stone or hard object. The long handle is lightweight and delivers the leverage needed to be a joy to use. My wife and daughter both enjoy using it in the flower garden for splitting hostas.

I've owned this shovel for 8 plus years. I've gone through 4 of them and sent them to friends that own commercial Gardens and they give it an excellent review. I've broken 2 handles along the way as opposed to more handles than I can remember of typical similar tools. I garden on 2 planted acres of a collectors garden in southern Maine. That means mostly rock and hard pan. I have built over 150 feet of rock wall from the rock removed from the planting holes I've dug. I've virtually worn out the spade heads on the 2 others I've owned. I use it as a partial pry bar at times hence the broken handles. This is the only shovel I'll ever use for my purposes. Yes I use other tools at times when the job requires a different approach. For instance when transplanting a shrub or tree when cutting some roots is required. This tool works far better to move perennials and small shrubs put not trees. Use the appropriate tool! You cannot break this handle unless you use it for a job it was not intended for. Yes I broke 2 handles after repeatedly using it as a pry bar to remove large rocks and boulders. I take responsibility for that and don't blame the tool. Could not and would not ever be without this shovel as long as I garden in Maine.

I really put this shovel to the test, repeatedly standing on it with all my weight and leveraging it until the fiberglass handle started to flex. The foot steps on it are great. The metal from the spade goes much further up the handle than most shovels and has two bolts going through. Cheap shovels don't have this. I bought the longer handled one to get more leverage and to avoid stooping over so much, to save my back. I think there's a shorter handle version for those that like that.Haven't had it long enough to see if or when it will rust but it's been three months and it hasn't yet. I do keep it in the garage when I'm not using it. I have used it in a lot of damp soil and not always washed the dirt off. I think the fiberglass handle makes it heavier but after breaking a cheap hoe(different brand) I got the heavier fiberglass handle on that also. This is more for piercing, getting into the soil, prying roots, leverage stuff, and did great getting under larger hard to remove weeds. You can use it to shovel dirt but I would loosen it with this then use a regular shovel to remove the dirt if you are doing so with any quantity. Someone with less strength would be helped by using this shovel because of it's leverage qualities. Keep in mind it does have some weight for sturdiness.
