If they could make it any thinner I could fold it from tinfoil. 1/8 of an inch thick. If you hit something it will be trash but I guess it would do its purpose. Buy another

I really wanted this skid plate to be strong and good, but I'm disappointed and wish I had spent the money on something much better. The Good: Skid Plate fits fine. Looks really nice. The Bad: Hardware is no good. Skid plate is floppy. Terribly thin metal, super soft and flimsy, not for any real off roading. The plate will cut into the water lines and may damage the engine on the opposite side if it lands on a rock or solid object. Several modifications and bending is required to make it safe to use. Much better plates available for the same price.

So there were zip instructions for this thing but there was a review that claimed you needed to install the new plate with the old one and some handy directions with it.I held both old and new plates to check the viability and the front screws went in ok but the rear right one refused to comply. After 20 minutes I decided to try the shorter old bolts and that worked real swell so I have the old ones at the back and the new screws at the front with the original plate underneath.I then tackled the left side red flange vibrating against the engine casing and filed it down until it was well clear of the engine cover which took 20 minutes to sort properly.I then took it for two 30 minute drives around Brentwood and heard no buzzing or untoward vibes while riding it around. For the money it seems like a bargain!

Yes, it's thinner than some, so if you plan on bashing rocks, go thicker. But I just want it to keep me from stranding myself somewhere, so it's perfect. Having read the reviews I was worried about fit, but it's perfect for a 2009 KLX250S. Bonus is that I could use the original skid plate (fits between the frame) and put this 'over' it with the use of a couple spacers I had around.Highly recommend for KLX guys.

Looking at the product description of this engine rock guard makes it seem like a pretty good protection item and not just for looks. The dimensions are stated to be 4mm thick 6061 aluminum when in fact it is only 3mm thick. That is over a 32nd of an inch thinner than stated. Mine was also scratched in several places. I dont think it was an item that was installed. I just think it has a poor quality paint job. The packaging appeared good so I dont believe the scratches were due to poor packaging just poor quality workmanship. My biggest gripe is the thickness of the material as the scratches are on the motor side of the guard. The fit was pretty good on my 2025 KLX300 but would have been nice to have instructions. It comes with 2 different length foam strips that took awhile to figure out where they went. I think they are supposed to go on the guard where it meets the frame tubes to eliminate noise from vibration.

Gotta hand it to them, this went on surprisingly easy. It does not come with instructions, but was fairly intuitive. I'll break down my process for anyone that could use some guidance. the kit comes with the plate, 2 short screws, 2 long screws, 4 beveled washers, 2 spacers, and some foam tape. I can't remember the size of the Allen head, so I would recommend sizing it up ahead of time.-remove factory skid with 8mm socket.-place beveled washers over long screws, insert through front holes on new plate.-place spacers on screws, then put the factory skid on the screws.-screw into factory nuts on bike. leave the screws loose until you get the rear ones in.- put washers on the short screws and insert into rear holes. This part took a little effort (hence the "near perfect" part).-tighten all screws and check for rattle and or contact with anything other than the frame. The only issue with my fit was the left side was about half a mm from the clutch cover and caused a rattle when i tapped anywhere on the plate. I folded up some paper towel to pad my vice grips and gave a little pull. That gave it a decent gap and got rid of the rattle. I didn't end up using the foam tape, but I'll hang onto it in case something comes up once I get a ride in. I'm sure this can be installed without the factory skid, but the screws had plenty of threads and I figured it offers more protection. For about half the price of the cheapest name brand I found, I'd say this is well worth it.

I couldn’t find a plastic one; metal was all that is actually available. This one came with a bit some kind of liner to stick to it to keep the vibration sound down. I never noticed it as far as noise, and it definitely covers the bottom of my 2009 KLX250s well. Great for trail riding. Protect your engines.
