Amazon.com

Combining the flexibility of standard insert tooling with the performance of resharpenable TiCo Hi-Density Carbide knives, the Freud RS2000 Insert Knife Rail And Stile Shaper Cutter set gives cabinetmakers the ability to offer over 18 profiles of rail and stiles for cabinet doors at a fraction of the cost of fixed knife cutters.

These rail and stile cabinet door cutter head sets consist of two insert cutter heads which accept carbide insert knives to give you the flexibility of changing knives for eighteen different looks and the cost savings of resharpenable knives. These versatile cutters can make recessed panel door frames with 5.5mm groove using the optional RS-M groovers as well as raised panel door frames, and glass door frames.

These cutters feature eased panel slot edges to prevent splintering and improve finishing, zero down time to switch from the molding cut to the cope cut with matched reverse sets, and profiles that always match even after resharpening.

Includes nine different pairs of profile knives (). Over 18 profiles of rail and stiles for cabinet doors.

As a professional joiner, I find the product to work easily and effectively. The only issue I have is thatit comes with bushings to reduce it to a 5/8 arbor and my machine has a 30mm arbor. So when it arrived I had to have the bushings bored out.

Bought this thinking that it had 2 heads and would run on 2 shapers (we have several set up for door production). It does work, but it takes some time to set up and we don't like the way you have to do the stile cuts before the ends of the rails when producing regular door parts. This guarantees end tear out, even with a sacrificial/zero tolerance piece behind the rail end. We run our stile material with a power feeder which worked OK once we had set the fence properly. There is no bearing to stop the bits from cutting deeper so your stile widths may get smaller if the fence is not set exactly right and even then, just as we found... sending a smaller piece through, for the end of a drawer, the stile swung in too deep and with the power feeder pushing it, ripped off two of its cutting tips. The carbide slot cutting ones at that. Very annoying. This wouldn't have happened with a regular bearing-ed head.Think twice about buying this and be aware that although I am sure that it will work once it is set for each run, that can be tricky and frustrating to get right. Especially when you are paying someone to do it and they manage to turn out 12 pieces in 3 hours. Hardly a production run.It says that it has 18 or so profiles but they are all just mirror or negative versions of each other and also, half of those are the glass door versions of the same thing. In the end, would anyone really notice the difference between most of these details? I doubt it, as they all look the same once cut. The profiles also don't fit together as tightly as we had hoped despite the shims and adjustments.I give it 2 stars as it is obviously well made and typical of Freud's quality but for us, a cabinet shop, it just doesn't work. If you take your time and lovingly make each cut then I am sure that you will have good/great results and the extra profiles would be useful for matching existing doors. However, we'll be going back to the regular heads tomorrow...

I make cabinets for a living and thought these would be a good choice based on price, flexibility and experience with other Freud products. They may be OK for a hobbyist, but if you rely on these to make money you'll spend too much time on set up and find that some of the profiles won't allow you to put the finished doors through your drum or wide belt machine. Freud tech support was very helpful, but agreed they couldn't meet my needs with this product.

This is a great product, but, Amazon.com stinks. They misrepresent the availability of the products they sell. After three weeks and no shaper head I had to trick my cell phone in order to get a real person on the phone to explain why they shipped everything in my order except the shaper head after 3 weeks !. The person on the phone could offer no assistance and told me it was the supplier who was delaying the order. I had already spoken to Freud and was told they have plenty in stock and all Amazon had to do was request the order and they would ship it that day. I asked the person at Amazon for a Supervisor and was placed on terminal phone hold. I got tired of holding so I hang up and went back online to check the order and they extended the estimated delivery date another 30 days !!!, WOW, GREAT SERVICE !!!. I will make every effort to shop elsewhere online in the future, I do not like the fact that Amazon has virtually zero customer service and trains thier people to lie to the customers. Buy the tool it works well. I give it five stars and zero stars to Amazon. I cancelled my order an went elsewhere to buy it.
